William Davis is a bright lad, but one of these days conditions will change for the environments are not what they should be. He is a boj' about eighteen years old, at least he says that is his age, but he looks younger. Last year Willie was a member of Jake Hazzard's show, and was rather fascinated with that sort of living. That was the attraction that brought him to Richmond and that is also one of the allurements that keeps him away from home and friends. A Palladium representative had a talk with Willie and learned a good many things from him that are most ! interesting. Tip to last year the young fellow lived at La Salle, Illinois, with his step-father, mother, one real sister, and several step-brothers and sisters. He says that his step-father was very cruel to him, and that his constant abuse of the boy made him run away from home, to which he will never return, he says, until his step-father is dead. "How about your mother?" was asked, and he rolled his eyes upand looking the reporter straight in the face said: "My mother, you bet she was good to me, and always treated me right and took my part and I write to her every week." "And your sister, don't you like her," was asked of the little waif. "Yes, she is a good sister, and she's got lots of dough, too." She married a rich baker and they live in style in New York. But the others are not very good to me and I will not go back. ' ' The little fellow is most interesting and as bright as a dollar.. He is loafing about Hazzard's saloon, corner north F and fourteenth and visiting around among the neighbors. He likes to travel around with the show. The boy is too bright to be allowed to live this kind of a life. Efforts should be made to have him surrounded with conditions which will make a man out of him. The two trains now in service, the westbound leaving here at 4:45 a. m. and the eastbound leaving at 8:45 p. m.. are doing a big business out of Richmond and are proving very popular trains, as the needs of new limiteds attest. They make but three stops between here and St. Louis. The sections of double track west of Indianapolis are now nearly completed and will enable the trains to make fast time. The Pennsylvania is making Richmond a terminal point for the dining cars, which stop off here, waiting for other trains, and the coach excursions from the East are scheduled to reach here about six o'clock in the mornimr, thus giving the excursionists a chance to get breakfast here. The local passenger officials state that the St. Louis traffic is beginning now to come up to the expectations of the officials and that the enlargement of the trains must come soon. A French engine was carried by Train No. 7 yesterday afternoon, which train was six hours late. The lines of it are graceful yet of different proportions from the American engines and as a whole, look slighter and less able to do the hard work that the Atlantic type of locomotives that draw the Pennsylvania fast trains do. It will be a French firm's exhibit in the Transportation building, as the Frenchman who traveled with it, a dapper little man, explained to a crowd v.ho stood around the engine. Ideal is the "pass word" to the home of the hungry.
