Within a short while the State Health authorities, assisted by the health officers and physicians of all the cities,, will commence to wage a fight against consumption, "the white plague," which will be the strongest fight ever waged and the one whose effects will be the most far reaching, wholesome and benificient of any such fight. The Atlantic City convention, at which there were a large number of Indiana doctors, in eluding Dr. T. Henry Davis, city health officer, discussed the question of the fight n?ainst consumption in ways that

o gave the doctors new ideas and new methods of the prevention and suppression of this dread disease, which carried off more people in the state and city lost year than any other disease. The fight will be hard, unscrupulous and one in which the doctors hope to win out. In Richmond every means of prevention and every

method of curbing the disease will be tried by the local physicians and if possible the ravages of consumption will be discontinued. The two greatest sources of infection are the expectoration (sputum), and heredity, and of these the former is vastly more common, indeed some hold that heredity has nothing to do with infection. The suppression and prevention of consumption can be done in many ways. The sputum should be burned or destroyed by antiseptics, as the tuberculosis germs, even though the sputum in which they are secreted may be dried thoroughly, still retain their vitality and are able to cause the disease. The disinfection of the rooms that a consumptive has been in is a good measure :md one that brings good results. All the clothing, beds, etc., and

Delegates to Chicago Convention Will Go Without Program. Indianapolis, June 11. One of the leading Republican politicians of this state informed your correspondent today that the Indiana delegates to the national convention have no fixed plan of action. In view of the fact that Goodrich, Kealing, Starr and a few others held a conference here a few days ago, it has been rumored that arrangements have been made for a campaign to head off the Fairbanks vice presidential boom when the delegates reach the scene of action, but the authority for the information given here said that the Indiana delegates are going to Chicago without any definite idea of what they will do. "None of us know what Senator Fairbanks will do if the nomination is offered," he said. "I Know that a majority of his friends in this state are very anxious that he refuse the nomination, but we have no plans in the matter." It was announced definitely today that the Indiana delegation will not meet until Monday, June 20, as agreed at the recent meeting here.

London, June 11. The Mail asserts: Two infernal machines were found on the night of June 7, concealed in tobacco boxes in the Tsarkoye Selo palace, where the Russian emperor is now residing. John Wingate, the veteran Republican editor from Shelbyville, who was here today, is a Sixth district delegate to the national convention. He is one of the Republicans who are confident that Senator Fairbanks will refuse to accept the nomination for vice president. "Senator Fairbanks has not told me that be will noc accept," said Wingate, "but 1 don't believe that he will. In my opinion Senator Dolliver of Iowa will be the nominee for vice president." Big Icehouses Burned. Logansport, Ind., June 11. The icehouses of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, in this city, were totally destroyed by fire. Over 2,000 tons of ice was stored in the buildings. The loss, Including a number of freight cars that were burned, is estimated at $10,000.

The last men of the Tenth and Seventeenth corps are scheduled to reach Liao Yang on Aug. 27.
