LAST NIGH?( ALTHOUGH THE WEATHER WAS BAD AND
THE GROUNDS WET RED MEN HOPE TO CLEAR EXPENSES This Week, but the Company May b Here Next Week Outlook Good For Tonight.
A night neither as good as "Wednesday night nor as bad as Tuesday night, brought a fair sized crowd of people to the R ed Men's Carnival last evening. For a while it was thought that the carnival would not be opened at all, but as the clouds cleared :;.way and the rain stopped the gates were opened and a steady stream of people passed inside. All but two of the shows were opened and did a good business. None of the public feats, the coasting down the iucline, the high diving, etc., have as yet been attempted, but if the weather is good will begin tonight. The Red men hope to clear expenses this week but it seems certain that if they wish to make any profit that the carnival company will have to remain here the first few nignts of next week and give the benefit of its per
formances to people who have been unable to view them this week. The Red Men have nearly all turned quite blue but the outlook begins to
brighten up a little and the blue col
or is about to give place to the red again. This morning the sun shone for the first time this week, the air is warmer and everything tends to the belief that spring is almost over and

summer is here. This will delight the hearts of the Red Men, as many people have been waiting for a good evening before venturing to the carnival. If this evening be a good one the carnival may expect the banner
crowd of the week. The Red Men
need to be helped out; the carnival is good and cheap; the weather is fine and so why not come out and attend the carnival. Said the man with the cane: "I took a trip out into the country with a frk'::'J of mine the other day. and we iiiul a gro;it time and a hearty laugh. I've been livin;? in the city al? my life, and. of course, i didn't know how to harness a horse. "What has that to do with the trip in the country? Just this: My friend
and I went up to Doylostown. and as
the day was bright and balmy we thought we'd like a carriage ride. So we hired a horse and buggy and drove into the country among the Bucks county hills. At the noon hour we were kind to the horse and. taking every bit of harness 1'rotu him, allowed him to eat his lunch in comfort, while we munched our sandwiches. "Well, it was all right until we started to put the ifctrucss on again. Then the discovery was made that neither of us was able to do the trick. We were stuck, but by doing a great deal of thinking vo managed to get all the harness in pl:ce except the bit. We tried to put that in the horse's mouth, but the animal wouldn't open his mouth for a cent. " 'Well,' said my companion, 'we'll simply have to wait; that's all. "'Wait for what?' I asked in surprise. " 'Why.' was the reply, 'we'll have to wait until the horse yawns.' " Philadelphia Press.
