yet this year by the addition of one more person, it is very materially improved. In the trained- animal department the same conditions prevail Long ago it was thought " that animals had reached the limit of their education, but each succeeding visit of the Great Wallace Show proves that speculation in this respect is useless and sure to be in error. There have been trained seals but when our citizens see Prof. Winston's performing seals with the Wallace Show, that do everything but talk, they will see that animal as well as human beings are constantly improving in their amusement proclivities. Tlw climax of sensation in the hippodrome department may have been thought to have been reaehed, but even here the visitor to the Wallace Show this season will not see the same old thing. The Wallace races are always good but this year the 'inherent excitement will be materially increased. by the work of the high jumping horses which leap over a hurdle seven feet high while carrying a mount. mi - -i

has in recent years fully demonstrated its ability to protect and to bear the title appropriately for it is the highest class circus in the world, not on paper only, but in reality. CAMBR"CITY Some of the Happenings in Our Western Neighbor. " ' Clem Abercrombie of Hasrerstown

The open church meeting at the South Eighth Street church Saturday evening was well attended and those present were favored with one of the

most interesting talks given at one of these meetings this year. Gordon Grares opened the program with two excellent musical selections which

were well received. Rev. Hadley, of St. Paul's Episcopal church, gave a talk on "Slum work in New York."

In a graphic manner he gave a fine account of the work that has been done in bettering the condition of the

slums and those living in them, and compared several districts as they are today with the same districts several

years ago, in each case showing the

inestimable good done for the poor

districts.

Rev. Hadley has been an active worker in the slum districts and he

spoke from his .personal remembran

highly interesting one to all present

especially those connected with mis

sionary work, of whom several were

present. After the program a socia hour was' enjoyed..
