muscinciits S The Heart of Maryland. "The Heart of Maryland," by David BelaseOj is one of the foremost American plays of the present decade. Wherever it was presented, however protracted its first series of performances, a return visit has been invariably and urgently sought for, and, if possibly, secured. As a story of lover and war, this production has acheived a phenomenal popular significance. Few if any American plays of our time have attended such a world wide fame and brought to the author so large a shai'fe of recompense. A Great Comedy Production. Elmer Walters' latest sensation, "A Millionaire Tramp," contains seven of the strongest comedy characters taht have ever been collected in one play. Each one differs vastly from the other, and lend opportunity for variety and action. The ghost scene in the first and the darkey porter's scene in the third act, are two of the funniest imaginable. The dramatic scenes are fully abreast of the comedy, and the scenic mounting superb. The Church of the Holy Cross in the second act is one of the handsomest settings of this kind that has ever been attempted. The opera house in the third act is a decided novelty, something entirely new and out of the ordinary, while the old hotel in the last act is the very embodiment of quaintness and originality. Miss Marie Wainwright as Viola in "Twelfth Night," in hose and doublet! It is the unexpected, but it is the unexpected which always takes place. Adjectives are taxed to a very considerable extent in the effort to give a faint idea of the grace, the exquisite beauty, the symmetry of form, the manly feminity and the feminine manliness of Miss Wainwright as the boy Cesario. But why say anything about this since all theater-goers will see for themselves when iss Wainwright appears here on Monday, April 11 at the Gennett theater. This revival of "Twelfth Night" is one of the genuine big hits of the current season. It is not possible to conceive a more splendidly staged, costumed, lighted, or scenically equipped production that the one made by Manager Jules Murry for Miss Wainwright. The three great scenes are the seacoast, where the shipwrecked Viola makes her first appearance, Duke Orsino's love bower of roses, and Olivia's famous Italian garden scene. These three scenes are of exceeding splendor. The cast supporting Miss Wainwright is a capable one and that means a great deal, for the parts in "Twelfth Night" must be enacted by artists of recognized ability. Arrangements for St. Joseph's Benevolent society minstrels are going merily forward and with a very few exceptions the cast is complete, not only numerically, but as to the ability of those who will participate. A man who entered the office of the Police Court Clerk yesterday morning resembled an Oriental brigand, but he wore a tattered blue overcoat that at one .time belonged to one of Uncle Sam's soldier boys. When he spoke everybody forgot all about his personal appearance. He introduced himself as Joseph Costach, formerly of Turkey, and, singling out Clerk Gus Kirber, he asked him to help him to get a job upon the streets, with the understanding that he would act as interpreter in the police court at any time the services of one were required. Mr. Kirbort was impressed with the man's sincerity, and this feeling changed to one of admiration when the visitor said he could speak fifteen languages. He gave a practical test of liis ability in this line. He spoke English, Russian, French, Polish, Rou manian, Servian, German, Spanish and Italian as well as a native of either of the countries. Costach stated that in Turkey he was the owner of a troup of trained bears, and that he visited every country on the continent and picked up the language of each on these visits. He was greatly disappointed wThen told that there was no position open for him, and his distress was so genuine that Mr. Kirbert agreed to assist him in securing transportation to St. Louis, where he has relatives. BOSTON. The commencement exercises of the Boston township schools will be held at this place, Saturday evening, April 9. There will be four graduates. Judge L. C. Abbott of Richmond will deliver the class address. Rev. Wimmer held regular services at the M. E. church Sunday. Miss Agnes Druley visited relatives in Richmond a few days last week. The schools at Boston and District No. 1, closed last week with appropriate exercises. All the children seem to be glad that vacation has come again. Mrs. Maude Stanford and children have the measles. Many cases of mumps are reported in this vicinity. ' Miss Etta Girton of West Alexandria syent Easter with her parents here. Several from this place attended polo at Richmond last night. Monroe Rife and Arthur Nelson, are having new barns erected. Much complaint has been heard in our village about not receiving daily mail. Owing to the recent heavy rains, trains have been running very irregularly. If is hoped this will soon be remedied and they will again run on schedule time.
