White, under whose direction Katherine Willard is starring in "The Power Behind the Throne," is a strict disciplinarian. When his company is playing in a one night stand, Mr. White insists upon a performance equal to, if not better, than is given in a big city. Every bit of scenery in the production must be used if it can be placed on the stage, and no detail of business must be omitted. The local management has, therefore, no hesitancy in guaranteeing their patrons a treat when Miss Wiriard presents her great suc cess, "The Power Behind the Throne," at the Gennett theater on Monday, April 4th. Successful Efforts on His Part to Gain Transportation Home for Japanese Refugees.
All His Requests in Behalf of Japan Have Been Met in Good. Spirit. St. Petersburg, April 2. Up to the present the Kussian government has received no . news to confirm the statement sent by a 'news agency from Tokio that the Japanese made another attack on Port Arthur during the night of March 30-31. St. Petersburg, April 2. The American embassy is energetically looking after Japanese interests, Ambassador McCormlck's task is extremely delicate, but happily his excellent personal relations with Foreign Minister Lamsdor ff and the other ministers and the high esteem in which he is held by them has served to prevent the slightest friction. All his requests in behalf of Japan have been met in the best spirit. His latest representations were regarding the transportation TfOBERT B. M'COEMICK. home of the Japanese refugees on the island of Sakhalin, who, to the number of 600, have been waiting with the Japanese cansul and consular staff for an opportunity to return to Japan. Al though the matter presents some dim culties it has met with a favorable response. Russia will grant Japan's request and the refugees probably will be brought to the Siberian coast and thence dispatched by a neutral ship, which will be arranged for by Mr. McCormick. The ambassador is now taking steps to send forty-eight Japanese at Chita to Berlin and has received from the Japanese minister at Berlin a warm letter of thanks for the assistance afforded to the twelve refugees sent by Mr. McCormick to Berlin ten days ago. JAPANESE ADVANCE The Mikado's Army Preparing for Business. London, April 2. There is no confirmation of the report cabled irom Tokio to a news agency that a fresh attack had been made by the Japanese on Port Arthur. Some surprise is expressed over the rapid development of the Japanese advance in Korea as indicated by the seizure of Yongchun and, although little is known of this movement, it is supposed the. right flank of the Japanese army is making a simultaneous advance, and, permission being granted to the newspaper correspondents at Tokio to start to the front, is regarded as foreshadowing serious operations Testimony of a Minister. Rev. John S. Cox, of Wake. Ark., writes, "For 12 years I suffered from Yellow Jaundice. I consulted a number of physicians and tried all sorts of medicines, but got no relief. Then I began the use of Electric Bitters and feel that I am now cured of a disease that had me in its grasp for twelve 3-ears." If you want a relia ble melicine for Liver and Kidney Trouble, stomach disorder or general debility, get Electric Bitters. It's guaranteed by A. G. Luken & Co. Only 50c.
