Business would flow in from Ine most unexpected quarters, and when we took time to investigate, we could always trace it direct to some of our advertising. Col. Geo. Merritt, ol Waterbury Watch Co.
DAYS OF H00D00ISM. . Puritan, Pilgrim and Separatist were plain, easily understood terms and served well their purpose. Later eame Methodism, Presbyt irianism and Unitarianism and others. They are all right they mean something but now we are in an age of Hoodooism. Many people get tired of the old and put on the new. An exchange describes the conditions thus: ; ' ' Some fellow starts an ark and the rabble gets aboard. Let some longhaired, wool-jerker come along and we start with him for the happy land of Canaan. In this happy Hooligan land we have now more than three hundred variant sorts of creeds and new ones emerge almost every week. Dowieism has just movel its ark. Joe Smith and his progeny are on the boards in the calcium. Down in Maine on one of the sandy hills there flourisheth "The Holy Ghost .and Us Society.' The prophet of that band is the "Holy Ghost" and the rest of the company is the "Us." It is the "Us" that rakes up the dust and turns it over to the head hoodooer. Then there is another band called Holy Rollers don't see what would be the matter with High rollers and some sort of glamour moves the fanatical
people and they fall in. Is the raceof mankind never to get away from

The victory of Fred Landis over Major Steele is due to, at least, two things. Mr. Landis was in office and Mr. Steele was on the outside. This proves that an individual in office is stronger, politically, than an individual out of office. The contrary is true of a party. A party out of power is stronger than a party in power. Again, Mr. Landis is a young man and there is a tendency to bring young man to the front and retire the old veterans who have passed the period of best service. The contest in the Eleventh district was altogether friendly and leaves no sore spots. The talk about a canal across the isthmus has continued for centuries but now comes the command, from the-President, "Dig the Canal." President Roosevelt will have helped to make A good-deal of history by the time he completes an administration beginning m 1905. " " Alexander Dowie is having trouble with an Avstralian mob, : nJ he may have to call on the United States to protect him. The old blather skite has sought this trouble and ought to get out of it1 the best way he can.
Richmond is among the few cities in Indiana that escaped the recent floods. In selecting the site of this city, the founders exercised considerable foresight. Senator Barton o Kansas and who has been convicted of bribery, is a native of Indiana and was a good. fellow, until he became a citizen of Kansas. .
