When she comes to this city, which j will , be very soon, to play Viola, in "Twelfth Night," Miss Marie Wain-I wright, famous the world over for her histrionic versatility, will show how playfully the great Shakespeare could turn a eharming woman into, a captivating youth and mix her up so bad ly with herself that she even forgets which she is. Exceptional skill is demanded of the actress who carries Viola through her dual character. Miss Wainwright has done it over a thousand times with a delicacy of touch which makes her performance one of the most delightful of stage creations. Great Interest in "Ghosts." Since the first announcement was made of the appearance of Miss Al berta Gallatin in Ibsen's "Ghosts" at the Gennett theater, on Wednesday evening, many inquiries have been made at the box office of the theater. These inquiries are a sufficient proof of the widespread interest manifested in the famous drama of heredity. It is also abundant proof of the fact that, the news of the suc cess achieved by Miss Gallatin and her associates has reached this city. It is reported that several theater parties have already been formed among leading social residents. Miss Gallatin already enjoj's a deserved reputation among the theater-goers of this generation and Ibsen's "Ghosts" is known to every student of the drama. . Mr. Robert B. Mantell, the famous romantic actor who has not been in our city for several years, will come to the Gennett. theater Saturday, matinee and night. It surprises many people to learn that Kobert B. Mantell is not a native born American. II is birthplace is the old world town of Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland, not far from Ayr which claims the poet Burns as one of its illustrious sons. Mr. Mantell began his stage career in Rochdale, England, and played under many of the travelling "stock stars" of the day. His next engagement was with Miss Marriott who played a large repertoire. This wide experience was greatly to his advantage, for when he came here to join Mme. Modjeska's company, he played successfully a varied line of parts. Mr. Mantell was soon (entrusted with the leading role in "The Romany Rye," and then followed the memorable engagement with Fanny Davenport which won him the title that has clung to him ever since "the man that made the hit in Fedora." During his long career his most notable successes have been in "Monbars," "The Corsican Brothers," "The Face in the Moonlight," "The Secret Warrant," "The Dagger and the Cross," and many of the Shakespearean dramas. "The Light of Other Days," in which he appears this season, is a strong romantic play, and Mr. Mantell finds in the hero a congenial part which, as the boys say, "suits him down to the ground." Suicide Prevented. The startling announcement that a preventive of suicide had been discovered will interest many, A run down system, or despondency invarial!y precede suicide and something has been found that will prevent that condition which makes suicide likely. At the first thought of self destruction take Electric Bitters. It beins a great tonic and nervine wiil strengthen the nerves and build up the system.
