THE HOPEFUL CANDIDATE Now Has Hla Eye on the Selection of Delegates. Indianapolis, March 15. By the end of this week over 500 delegates will have been selected to the Republican state convention and it will not be so difficult to get a line on the situation. All of the candidates are very hopeful of nomination but the drift will soon be o evident that some of them will be able to determine definitely regarding their chances. There is no doub,t but that Hanly and Taylor are the leading candidates for governor but the followers of Sayre and Penfleld are very hopeful that something will happen to put them in the running more prominently. Sayre and Penfield, it is said, are very confident there will be a break in the convention because neither Taylor nor Hanly being strong enough to control in which case they figure their chances will be fine. All of the candidates are now settling down for the finale, as it is but six weeks until the convention. The Marion county Republican convention which is next to the state convention in size and Importance will probably be held about the first week of May. All the nominations will be made by the old delegate system. Two years ago the Republicans nominated by direct vote and the political grafters are said to have reaped the richest harvest they had ever known. The direct vote system is In bad odor in this county even among the people who delight to call themselves reformers. There will be some red hot contests for the state senate. Col. Wm. E. English, who one time represented this district In congress, having been elected by the Democrats and whose father was on the ticket for vice-president in 1880, is a candidate for one of tie Marion county seats in the senate and Roscoe O. Hawkins, late applicant for the federal judgship here, is also a candidate. insane Farmer's De3. Great Bend, Kan., March 15.
