"Why Girls Leave Home" is the novel title of a drama which will be seen at the Gennett theater on March 18th. The theme is said to have been taken from life and is handled so that nature flows through every part of it. A young girl reared in a home of luxury, is lured from the family fire side and encounters the world as it too often really exists cold and eager to trample maiden innocence under foot. Through a series of ex citing and intensely interesting stage pictures the sordid tendencies of a life yielding itself to the pace that kills is shown. The play is said to be beautifully .mounted scenically. The cafe scene in the second act and the prison, scene of the fifth act are particularly effective. The company is said to be exceptionally strong, each member being peculiarly suited to the character assumed. Richard Brinsley Sheridan's comedy, "The Rivals," will be the bill at the Gennett tonight, and will be presented by Joseph Jefferson, jr., and William W. Jefferson. There is no need to go into details as to the capabilities of the above stars. They have served their apprenticeship under the tutelage of their father, the beloved "Dean of the Profession," Mr. Joseph Jefferson, which means that they are worthy of going before the ?mblic in the parts they have been playing for. the past five seasons with their father. Joseph, jr., will be Sir Lucius O 'Trigger: William W. will play Lob Acres. The supporting company includes Messrs. John Jack, Guy Coombs, Percy Plunkett, Harry OdJin, James Lewis and the Misses Ffolliott Paget, Blanche Bender, Meta Gi eene and others, all members of the original Joseph Jefferson company. "For Her Children's Sake" was presented to a fair house at the Gennett last night and pleased everybody. The play is full of active and exciting situations, and the characters were in good hands. The Sheedy chil dren were especially winning am their work, as well as several in the cast, was repeatedly applauded. GARFIELD NOTES School Notes Prepared by Charles Starr. At the first meeting of the school council for this term the members were requested to make innuirv amon? the pupils as to what was the - 1 one thing most needed to better the school. The report was made Tues day evening and showed that in the opinion of the majority a new floor for the gymnasium would be the most desirable improvement. The council is now considering whether the school can do any thing to secure this. The play ground committee of the Civic Improvement League met "Wednesday afternoon in the principal's office. O for Garfield school. The following committee 'composed of city teachers had a meeting in the office of the principal of Garfield school last night: Misses Jean Dunlop, Pearl Green, Mary Friedley, ina Steen, Mary Hill, Mary Lemon, Anna Lupton, Maud Toms, and Prof. Hiser of the Manual Training department of Garfield. They discussed ways and means for improving the method of displaying the manual training work of the schools at the annual art exhibit in June. Whenever there are large classes in a school the great difficulty is to give everyone an opportunity to recite. At present to obviate this difficulty in the 8 B history classes they are given every day some topic on which to write briefly. This written work is then taken up and the regular recitations take place. The papers are ex amined by the teacher and returned to the pupils. This not only gives the teacher a knowledge of the work of each pupil, but it gives the pupils an opportunity to see for themselves what they are doing. It also tends to fix in mind important points and it is a drill in accurate expression. The value of protecting the birds and the importance of encourasrinsr them to live and nest about our homes has been so clearly pictured by Miss Test that many of the boys are now making boxes in which the birds may live. The knowledge gained br previous work of this kind in the manual training department makes this work verv interesting to the pupils who partake in it. Tuesday the Koyals met their first defeat of the season and also their match in polo playing. Score, Koyals 6, Eagles 8. Thursday the Cresents defeated the Clippers in a fast game by the score of 9 to 4. The standing of the polo teams so far this season is as follows:: Won Lost Royals 5 1 Crescents 4 2 Eagles 4 o Clippers 1 5 Elks 0 4 The Giants defeated the Monarchs Wednesday by the score of 27 to 6. The executive 3:15 Friday. committee met at We are All Familiar with the deep, hoarse bark, grimyl called "a grave-yard cough." It is the cry of the tortured lungs for mercy. Give them mercy in the form of Allen's Lung Balsam, a remedj for pulmonary trouble, so highly es teemed that it is recommended even in the earlier stages of consumption In the later stages mortal skill is unavailing.
