muscmcnb Edward Blondell's spectacular comedy extravaganza, "Through the Centre of the Earth," will be presented in al lits gorgebusness at the Gennett theater tomorrow night. The present production far surpasses in numbers and scenic effects Mr. Blondell's previous effort. Special mention must be made of the big numbers presented by a bevy of beautiful girls richly costumed; specially engaged high-class vaudeville artists will introduce their specialties during the action of the play. The fanciful story of the play forms the framework for man3' amusing situations. Prof. Portley a scientist, discovers a mummy 4,000 years old,, which he brings back to life with some wonderful fluid of his own invention. The mummy gives the professor a talisman and tells him of the hidden treasures of the inner world, and instructs him how to reach the center of the earth. The second act shows the professor, Reuben and Gussie in their travels at the North Polewhere they are beset by huge polar bears, and many laughable incidents occur in their efforts to continue their travels. Finally they arrive at the forbidden passage, and succeed in gaining entrance to the inner world, where, by a series of ludicrous circumstances, Reuben is made king, and rules supreme. Next season Mr. Blondell will be seen in a neAV musical comedy drama, which he has just completed, entitled "The Lost Boy." have doubtless noticed the l on for Al. G. Field's greatest minstrels, and have probably thought, "I expect it will.be good, but just about the same as others that have been here in the late past." When you have advanced that far kindly stop and "think again," for you "have another think coming." Al. G. Field's minstrels are not the same as others that are content to follow in the same old "rut" year after year, and, while many of the so-called "big minstrel ' shows" are pleasing, still not to the extent that cause the "house" to go wild with delight, as is the case with Field's minstrels. Tn the days of Jack llaverly, who. i)y lilt ;t , t iiit: jm unitof minstrelsy, forty people was considered a large company indeed, and so it was, but Mr. Field has gone the old-time show, with all glory, "20" better, and numbers upon the company role 00 members, all "top notchers" in the "burnt cork business. " Fifty-five of this number Avill be seen in the "First Part," which, by the way, will be the most magnificent stage picture ever presented to the people of Richmond. The comedians with Mr. Field include Doe Quigley, Harry Shrink, Jimmy Donnelly, Lee Prossor, Lester Fairman and others. Special attention has been given to the selection of vocalists and the numbers to be sung will be the best of the new and many of the old songs that everybody delights in hearing sung. Grand transformations and new specialty acts will follow each other in rapid succession, and the two performances to be given in this city next Saturday will be the greatest ever presented by a minstrel organization. The distracting headaches from which BO many women suffer make life a daily purgatory. If men suffered with headache as women do, business would be almost at a stanstill. Does not the fact that men do not suffer from these severe headaches suggest that there must be a womanly cause for them ? When the womanly organism is diseased, headache, backache, nervousness and sleeplessness are consequences which are sure to follow. Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription cures headaches and other aches and pains by curing their cause. It establishes regularity, dries unhealthy drains, heals inflammation and ulceration, and cures female weakness. It soothes pain and builds up the nerves. It transforms weak, sickly, nervous invalids into happy, healthy women. Thousands have testified to its marvelous merits. "I took two bottles of your Favorite Prescription ' and two of the 4 Golden Medical Discovery' and am feeling well," writes Mrs. Dan McKenzie, of Lorway Mines, Cape Breton Co,, Nova Scotia. "I had uterine trouble, pain in the side and headache. After taking your medicines I pot well. You may publish this or use it in any way you think best, as I cannot speak too highly of Dr. Pierce and his medicines." "Favorite Prescription " has the testimony of thousands of women to its complete cure of womanly diseases. Do not accept an unknown and unproved substitute in its place. Free. Dr. Pierce's Common Sense Medical Adviser is sent free on receipt of stamps to pay expense of mailing only. Send twenty-one one-cent stamps for the the book in paper covers, or thirty-one stamps for the cloth -bound volume. Address Dr. R. V. Pierce, Buffalo, N. Y.
It requires an outlay of nearly $000
daily to pay the expenses of this great organization, and, to "break even," two shows will be given at the Gennett, matinee and night. This will give a larger number of people an opportunity to witness this, the rreatest minstrel show extant. Prices are near the "popular" mark. Matinee, children, 25c; adults, 50c. Night, lower floor, first four rofs and boxes, $1, other seats on lower floor 75c. Balcony 75c and 50c. Gallery 25c. Advance sale opens at Nixon's confectionery tomorrow morning, and, if you are "wise," you will line up for your seats early- -ji.!i2J. JEALOUS MAN'S CRIME West Virginian's Jealous Rage Leads to Bloody Work. Klkins, W. Va., March 2. Jealousy and whisky were the cause of a double tragedy here. Louis Toureville, who resides within the city limits is dead, as is also the infant child of John Meyer and Mrs. Toureville and Mrs. Meyer are seriously Injured. About 5 o'clock yesterday evening Toureville went to his home and began beating his wife and threatening to shoot her. She took refuge on the roof of the house but being discovered by Toureville the woman jumped to the ground and started for the woods, Toureville shooting at her as she ran. When opposite the home of John Meyer, Toureville encountered Mrs. Meyer with her infant child in her arms. His anger then turned to her and accusing her of his trouble he raised the pistol and fired. The ball struck the child in the neck, ploughed clear through it and wounded its mother in the cheek. , Officers Simons and Kochenderfer immediately started to place Toureville under arrest but he held them at bay until his ammunition was exsausted when he fled into his own home and blew his brains out with a shot gun. At this time Mrs. Toureville is still in the woods and the extent of her injuries cannot be learned. Mrs. Meyer's injuries will not necessarily prove fatal although she has suffered severely from the shock. IN SOUTH AFRICA Gloomy Outlook for the Late Boer Republics. Johannesburg, March 2. Lord Milner, British high commissioner in South Africa, in delivering the presidential address before the intercolonial council for the Transvaal and Orange river colony, revealed tb.3 grave financial condition of the colony. He said a deficit amounting to $5,000,000 was due to the shrinkage in railroad receipts and the general parlysis of industry, while almost all of the $150,OOu.OOO loan had already been expended on railroads, the repatriation of the Boers and the development of the country. Their only resources now are patience and economy. Lord Milner said he was not dismayed and that he hoped for improvements when an adequate supply of labor was forthcoming. Wholesale Revocation of Charters. Springfield, 111., March 2. Charters of 1,000 corporations doing business in Illinois have been cancelled by the secretary of state for failure to comply with the law which requires annual statements. Monday was the last day on which reports could be filed, and a large number have defaulted. About 200 reports were received at the office of the secretary yesterday, but whether or not they will be recorded is yet to be determined. The law demanding arrual reports from all corporations cluing business in the state has been in question for some time. The Illinois supreme court, in a recent opinion, upheld its alidity, and there has since been a rush on the part of various corporations to set heir reports to Springfield in time. Plate Glass May Be Cheaper. Cleveland, O., March 2. The American Plate Glass Jobbers' association completed its organization at a meetingof representatives from all over the United States here today. No action was taen regarding a change in the plate glass business and that prices would remain the same as at present. The handicap of strikes and other troubles that existed in the glass trade last year are not anticipated for the coming building season and a good trade is looked for. 1 Grain Gambling Case. St. Louis, Mo., March 2. The St. Louis circuit court of appeals handed down a decision yesterday to the effect that a person who loses money in a bucket shop transaction on margins cannot recover. The court states that it is a general rule of law that the loser, voluntarily pa3ring to a winner the stake lost cannot recover in the absence of express special statutory enactments conferring such right of action. Turned Down Carnegie' Gift. Deroit, Marcn 2. By a vote of 15 to 17 the common council last night rejected Andrew Carnegie's offer of $750,000 for a central and branch public library buildings. Death In uemcn Extract. Stillwell, I. T., March 3. Five young men of this city are dead and others are critically ill as the result of drinking lemon extract in large quantities for a stimulant.
