Kidder, a play wright who is responsible for more tender, touching, pathetic, heart interesting plays than any other author now before the public. His "Peaceful Valley" and "A Poor Relation" made the late Sol Smith Iiussell famous and a millionaire. In this work lie promises to surpass bis

other efforts and give 'to ns a pic-e that for stirring sit nations, stuHHn elimaxes, js well rs he.-irt-toucliiiu! interest cannot be surpassed. Manager Newell has e;ist "An American Hobo" with care, selecting1 only artists eminently fitted for their respective roles. Beyond Compare. Fond mamas will do well to keep their boys tied firmly 'to their apron st rings while "The Isle of Spice" company is in'town. It has a chorus that contains yards and yards the girls are really so tall it seems impossible to measure it in any other way of feminine beauty that is calculated to go to the head of an3T susceptible youth and cause him to neglect his business. There are blonde girls and brunette girls, and brown haired betwixt and between girls, girls with black hair and melting blue orbs. Girls with a Salvation Army demureness and girls with a wicked wink and a lingerie kick, but all young and lovely, and so tall and slender that they suggest the suspicion that the management has cornered the whole visible supply of girls. There isn't a suggestion of age or a double chin in the whole lot and as a beauty show it is worth all the money. The advance sale indicates a good house at the Gennett tomorrow night. "The Fortune Teller." Harry J. Smith's lyrics in "The Fortune Teller" are exceptionally clever and the ratisie which was written by Victor Herbert is most melodious. A sample of !h Smith's satirical verse is interesting, especially as it deals with operatic folks. "When a girl is in the ballet operatic She has a gorgeous chance for breaking hearts; She's the object of attention most ecstatic, From both young and aged patrons of the arts." "The Fortune Teller' is making a comprehensive tour of the country the present season under the direction of Messrs. Milton nnd Sargent Aborn and the production they are using is that which was used by Alice Neilsen when she was so successfully presenting the opera. It i said to be j the most elaborate stage setting that has ever been given a comic opera in this country and crst Miss Neilsen in excess of $-10,000. The company numbers sixty people and includes some of the best musical artists in the country. "The Fortune Teller" is to be presented at the Gennett theatre Friday evening, Feb. 12. The Grandest Spectacle of the Century To be Staged in Dayton, Ohio.

Klaw & E danger's massively ornate spectacle, "Ben Hur," is to be staged at the Victoria Theatre, Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday evening, February 25, when it will inaugurate an engagement if six nights, with matinees on Saturday and Wednesday. The dramatization of General Lew Wallace's great novel has been seen very little outside of New York. William Young, who made the dramatization, succeeded most admirably in the production of a drama which not only retains the most absolute fidelity to General Wallace's great book but which does not offend the most devout Christian. Professor Edgar Stillman Kelley has heightened the solemnity of "Ben-IIur" with music that is a positive delight to the ear. The stage settings provided by Klaw & Erlanger have never been equalled in this country. The pictures of "The Star of V.ethlehem," "The City of Jerusalem" from the terrace garden of the palace of Ilur in Judea, "The Interior of a Roman

Gallery," "The Groey of Daphne," "The Fountain of Castalia," "The Chariot Knee," "The Vale of Ilinnon and the Mount of Olives" are re

markable exhibits of the best scenic art. To these are added some wonderful effects in lighting, as in "The Star of Bethlehem," and in stage mechanics, as shown in the thrillinir chariot iace. The contrivances that go to make up the chariot race cost more than .fl 5,000. Eight horses run in full view of the audience. The great scene which closes the play i the healincr of the lepers on Mount Olives. Here hundreds of people are arranged in picturesque groupings, the whole forming one of the most beautiful pictures ever put upon the stage. The personality of the Nazarene is not shown in the play but in this scene the nearness of His presence is indicated with the most intense impressiveness by a shaft of the purest white light. The dramatization is carefully constructed so as to remove it from the domain of the so called Passion plays, and while the Saviour is only referred to, yet His tremendous dominating power is felt with thrilling effect. The Dayton & Western Traction Co have made arrangements to carry passengers from this city to' all the Ben Hur performances. Full particulars will be given later. The Earl of Pawtuckett Avill be presented at the Gennett Monday, February 15th. The Gennett will offer for its Sat

urday attraction "A Tho rough bi-ed Tramp," a crisp, sensational comedy, redolent with the slang, crime and adventures of the typical hobo. T. Kush Thompson is the personage around whom the entire action of the play revolves. True to his pro-name Thompson is a very rapid individual and causes the action to revolve at a pace that leaves no spare room for a dull moment during the entire two hours and a half consumed in the performance. Several sensational scenic effects are introduced. "A Thoroughbred Tramp" promises to be one of the cleverest things of the season. Patrons of the Gennett should not miss the opportunity of witnessing this attraction.
