Ant Robbed by Lizard. While walking along the road on tb outskirts of liordighera I noticed a Btrange looking Insect moving across It in a peculiar way. On getting nearer I saw that what had attracted iny notice was a black ant about an Inch long with brown wings dragging a cricket bigger than Itself. It held the cricket by the head, and as the ant moved backward It drew the cricket toward It. While doing so it, entered the shadow cast by my umbrella and instantly released Its hold and got out of the shadow; but, finding there was no danger, It returned and seized Its prey again by the head and recommenced its backward movement. A low wall ran alongside the road, and when the ant got within six feet of It a common brown lizard appeared on the top of the wall and evidently soon caught sight of the ant, for it ran quickly down the wall and to within two feet of It, where It crouched for a second or two like a cat ready to spring and then charged the ant, apparently butting the cricket free with Its head. Before the ant could regain its hold the lizard seized the cricket in its mouth and darted up the wall In the direction from which it originally appeared on the scene, leaving the ant running round and round, moving its wings in an agitated manner, vainly searching for its lost prey. Nature.

the reorganization of the Democratic county committee. If Keach A ever starts after the "gang" in earnest it is acknowledged he will give them a horse-race, The recent bout w as not
a fair exhibition, as Keach. was handi
capped at every point through the desertion of men on whom he had relied who went back on him because he did not appoint them to office when
Holtzman was elected. He still has a
strong hold on many of the Democrats,
and when he once gets his organiza
tion Into working order ho will make things hum. Keach allowad the other
election to go by default in great meas
ure, lie saw that a fight would only
divide the party, and rather than engage In a bitter struggle he gave up
his own cause while not getting en
tirely out of the way of Taggart and Fanning. The latter, however, were not as generous as was Keach, nor did
they show the same desire not to in
jure their party. Thinking they had Keach on the run they bantered him and "rubbed it in" by every means possible. Keach has resented this. Apparently he is determined to give battle to the Taggart ring. lie will put party interests aside and it will be a battle royal. That the Republicans will be the real gainers goes without saying. That is why they are rejoicing.

This city has produced an unusual caso along the line of life insurance litigation. The policy which the holders are asking the company to pay is upon the life of a man who has been lost for thirty-nine years. His relatives are relying on this long absence as proof of his death, so that they may collect the money. J. A. Kellogg yesterday made an appeal to Probate Commissioner Walker, asking that an administrator be named for the estate of his brother, Henry Kellogg. The latter was a Union soldier and became insano while in the service. He was confined in an asylum at Evansville and escaped in 1865 and has never been heard from. An insurance policy for $2,500 has been kept alive by J. A. Kellogg and another brother. They would now like to collect the money. The annual convention of the United Mine Workers of America will convene here next Moaday, and at the miners headquarters in this city arrangements are already well under way for the reception of the delegates. The wage question will of course be the great topic of discussion, and in view of the efforts being made in some quarters to reduce the pay of the men, it promises to offer more than the usual amount of trouble. There is little doubt, however, that the convention will solve the quetaion to the satisfaction of the men, and then will come the long fight with the operators to make them see the case in the same
light as do then employes.
