Palmer university will te closed for the present, although the fund of $100,000 necessary to secure the $100,000 of Francis Asbury Palmer of New York has been raised. This action wa3 taken a3 the litigation over the, will of the deceased millionaire in the New York courts, will prevent the university drawing interest on the endowment and the fund pledged, which money is necessary for the support of the school. No date for reopening is mentioned.

Wheat Is Damaged. Iadianapolls, Jan. 4. Wheat ha beea seriously daaaarad by the weather ef the past tea days, according to CUte Statistieian B. F. Johnson. Dry, tree ting weather mean damage to the crop, and that kind, according to Wr. Johnson, has brought about the ruin of the acreage sown to the grain last fall. Farmers who are prone to easy discouragement assert the crop entirely killed, but Mr. Johnson takes a more optimistic view of the situation.

Scarlet Fever Prevalent. Indianapolis, Jan. 4. The. state hoard of health has received reports indicating that scarlet fever is prevalent in a mild form in different parts of the state. The reports show few deaths from the disease., In some localities the fever seams not to hare been recognized and ha been diagnosed as some other disease. From this fact the board considers this mild form dangerous.

Too Many Explosions. Indianapolis, Jan. 4. State Factory Inspector McAbee reports thirteon boiler explosions as the year's recoru. As it is thought that these accidents occur ts the result of incompetent engineers, an effort will be made to have the next legislature enact a law compelling all stationary engineers to pass an examination and obtain a license.

Drowned Himself In Well. Sullivan, Ind., Jan. 4. George Mathls, sixty-five years old, drowned himself in a well near his farm, fourteen miles southeast of here. Mathis committed suicide in a fit of despondency caused by the continued sickness -of his wife, who ha seen an invalid for saveral years..
