The new Grand hotel at Marion was opened last eight. It is European stylo but very complete and good. It was badly needed there as the hotels were always overcrow led. Jolly times are in prospect for the Modern Woodmen of the city. Next Monday night the local camps of Woodmen and Royal Neighbors hold public installation exercises. Music will be furnished by the Petrang quartet. Next Saturday night a cimp will be instituted at H ierstown and a nurnber of local Woodmen, including the camp team, will go over. William Urban and N. C, Heironimus have charge of arrangements. Here is a hint for which business men will be thankful as getting away with a grand cold weather nuisance. The Logansport Pharos says merchants of that city "have discovered that they can keep the frost off their plate glass windows by the use of an electric fan. Hence in show windows about town you can see electric fans running at full speed, the same as in summer. The effect is to keep
the glass very largely cleared of frost and ice. " The candidate column on our eighth page continues to lengthen and to grow in interest. - Albert W. Reed and wife will start frtf Florida Thursday. A Good Hecummcndatiou. "I have noticed that the sale on Chamberlain's Stomach & Liver Tablets is almost invariably to those who have once used them," says Mr. J. II. Weber, a prominent druggist of Cascade, Iowa. What better recommendation co lid any medicine have than for p to call for it when again in need of such a remedy? Try them when you feel dull after eating, when you have a bad taste in your mouth, feel bilious, have no appetite or when troubled with constipation, and you are cer tain to be delighted with the prjmpt ralief which, they afford. The Panhandle Calls For The Ground itiWill Occupy With Its New Freight Yards and Houses. The proposed improvements of the Panhandle property in the city by the building of new freight depots and freight yards, in addition to the new passenger depot, are now closely foreshadowed. Th company is doing the handsome thing by Richmond, which city has for many years been one of their best business points ou their western Hue. It low appears that they will spend some $250,000 here before they are through with it. Last evening their petition for the
vacation of north fourth and nitn streets was presented to council as noted in the council proceedings. The company have also notified people on the property to vacate. Lai summer the company bought all of this ground and the houses on it.allowing the occupants to remain at reasonable rental, with the promise of sixty days 'notice to vacate when the company desired the premises. This notice was served Saturday. The company intends to go ahead and have the freight depot completed by the time the passenger station is finished if possible. The houses on the ground will be disposed of at once and then removed or destroyed so building can commence. The ground of the company includes all that triangle south of their tracks a&d north of D street, from the C. R. & M. east to sixth street, with the exception of a little triangle occupied by Collet's saloon. East of sixth street they have a good deal of ground also, but sixih street will remain open as it is.
In their notices to vacate. Done are disturbed west of fourth street. All on their ground east of fourth street will have to move. There are perhaps twenty families who will have to vacate, besides others who have business establishments there.

Meetings at Grace Church. There is unusual interest in the meetings at Grace, .church such as has not been witnessed in the city for years. The preaching of Mrs. Harris is searching. The Bible readings of Rev. Harris at 2:30 are of great profit. Their singing melts the hearts of hearers and souls are saved at every service. The church believes that a great awakening has begun in the city that will bring hundreds to the Lord.
