LOCALENTHUSIASH On One Subject Richmond People Grow Enthu-siactic.
The increase of popular enthusiasm f on the following subject iu almost oauy manifested by public expresbion and local endorsement. Read what this citizen says and disxver the cause of the constant showering of praise which follows in the wake of Doan's Kidney Piils: Mrs. Jennie Laudig, 16 south eleventh street, says: "As a result of a severe attack of diphtheria my daughter was troubled with a weakness of the kidneys. I tried numerous remedies and was treated by various remsdies but the relief was only temporary. Learning about Doan's Kidney IMls and seeing them so highly recommended I procured a box at A. G. Lu ken's drug sto-e and she began their use. In a short time the trouble entirely disappeared. After several weeks it again began to appear. She used Doan's Kidney Pills and the attack was promptly warded off." For sale by all dealers, price 50 cents per box. Foster-Mil burn Co. Buffalo, N. Y., sole agents for the United States. FOR THE HOUSEWIFE FsrnlahiBK Dlalnsr Roome. Don't have an overmantel of looking glass witb little woolen brackets aud pillars at tbe ekUs. It has a finely appearance, and mirrors set-in to be viiuewUat out of kt-opiu iu a diuirjg room. taste and not nearly so -xjrisivt. can- i Biderin thfit renlSy artistic enjrravinjrs of good pictures cau be Uoulit so! cheap. ! A still chea jHr method is to have a valance of- stamped velvt'tit-n or some j oriental taitestry gjttherHl to a little i rod which shall be fixed to the wjiil about two feet above the mantel btrd. and Just atove the valance there should be a stained deal thelf to hold pottery. Don't have only linolenm on the floor. It has such a chilly effect. Don't have a medley of colors In a dining room, and let those vhlch you decide upon be deep and rich In tone. The reds, blues and greens of the old fashioned Turkey carpets give the three best shades to work with, taking one or at least two for a room. In a small room wall paper, curtains and tablecloths should be of the same color, and the carpet should either be a darker tone of the same or of oriental design. Philadelphia Ledger. Christmas Doughnuts. A necessity of the colonial Christ mas table was a generous plate of raised doughnuts. A formula for thes which is contributed by a famous New England housekeeper Is as follows: One cupful of lard or butter, two cupfuls of milk, a cupful of yeast, three cupfuls of sugar, four or five eggs, nutmeg and a pinch of salt. Warm together the milk and lard, then add the yeast; stir in flour enough to make a batter and let It stand over night: then add the other ingredients. Knead soft and let it rise again; then roll, cut out and let rise before frying. Sprinkle with sugar and spread, not pile, on a platter over which a napkin has first been laid. Harper's Bazar. A Dainty llclder. An especially dainty curling iron holder is shown in the illustration. This is mrde from buff linen drawn smoothly over a shaped cardboard. A riblMin across the back affords a place In which to slip the iron. The front FOR THE CTKLnfO IROX. Is embroidered with dainty colors, blue, delicate green, and a touch here and there of black to give character to the whole. The Ik: by ribbon, made intc full rosettes at the sides and at the top where it is hung, is of old rose. Tht combination of colors is soft and artistic. Housekeeper. A Firm Paste. Take a tablespoonf ul of dry flour and half a teaspoonful of powdered alum, mis slowly witb half a teaspoonful of cold water, set on the back of the stove and pour into it another tablespoonful or two of boiling water; stir briskly and cook but a short time. Tour into a wide mouthed bottle while warm and ; use a wooden paddle to take it out with. The paste may be perfumed and will keep indefinitely. I used this to fasten hanging cords on celluloid picture fiames. putting a square piece of stiff white paper over each end of the cord, and it ho'ds as firmly as would a screw e;j a wooden frame. T'.iat dear old lady. Julia Ward Howe, bids the young bomemaker to have nothing for show. She says in Good Housekeeping: "Let your rooms look as if they were liveJ in. Provide convenient cases for your books, comfortable chairs to sit in. tables or desks at which one can write with comfort, pleasant pictures or engravings to look at. Do not envy the melancholy splendor of superfluous apartments rarely opened aud full of ghostly shadows. The time and money expended in the care of these possessions are out of ail proportion to any pleasure that can be derived from them." Dyed Carpets. It Is not generally known that carpets can be successfully dyed and thus enter into new life. Almost any style of weave can be so treated; but. of course, ingrain must have no cotton thread on the surface. It is best always to select for the new color something qniet in both color and tone. A dead leaf brown I excellent, while an olive green r duJI red is almost as good. Of coarse tbe dyed carpet must be a solid color, and this is why only tbe quietest shades should be chosen. . .
The SPORTING WORLD Preaalalnsj Vomit Jockeys. Two young jockeys are well fixed for neit year, and their marked su."ce in salary getting will doubtless excite piany more youngsters to lake to the saddle for a livelihood. Mr. Haggin receives second call on the boy's services. J. II. C'arr. owner of a good string of thoroughbreds, developed him and holds the claim to first call. The $15,000 which Wonderly receives for second call Is greater than any salary heretofore paid to a jockey for similar services in either England or America. International li Day Raw. The great international six day race at Madison Square Garden. New York, will begin Dec. 9. The teams that left Europe to come here in quest of honors and American gold are a follows: Ooucolta and Simar, Kruiicej CbavaJiec-f and Fisher. Switzerland; Muller and Le Pontre, De Hoeck and Kerff. Belgium, and Frederick and Jaak, Germany. The contingent of continental cyclists is the most formidable that has ever taken part in Gotham's great annual cycle race, and Yankee speed and grit will be tested to their utmost to prevent one of the foreign teams capturing the laurels in this year's race. Some of the pedalers who sailed are already well known on this side. Gougoltz and Simar, it will be remembered, were only a Wp behind tbe winners last year and furnished considerable excitement throughout the week by their remarkable sprinting in an endeavor to shake off their fast flying opponents. Fisher and Chevalier, the Swiss pair, took part in the 1S99 race and created the sensation of' the week by stealing the only laps of the race that were gained in that fashion by furious, well timed spurts that killed off one after the other of the opposing riders. Muller rode here before, but was handicapped by a poor partner. This year he has as mate one of the best distance men abroad. Le Poutre is no stranger to the sis day grind either, having on several occasions astounded Europe by his wonderful stamina. Frederick, who has also frequently ridden in this country, is likewise better equipped with a partner than he has ever been before. Ee Iioeek and Kerff will wear the Belgian colors iu the coming battle on wheels. They have earned an excellent reputation on the other side and are said by Md'ar land to be a dangerous team. rw Jersey Game l.an. Much has beeu said concerning the new game laws of New Jersey, which prohibit dogs from running loose in the gametiel'Js, forbidding the removal of game from the state and the tracking of rabbits and quails iu the snow, but most of the sportsmen agree that the right move was made for the preservation of the game during the close season and for the protection of game from pot hunters during the open sea son. Quails are more plentiful in New Jersey than for a number of years. Not many were killed last year, and most of the birds survived tbe winter season. Many sections have quails in sufficient number to furnish good sport. Baseball Echoes. Manager flanlon claims that Pitcher Mctiinnity wants to return to him and that St-ott would gladly go back to Cincinnati. Harry Wolverton and Jack Barry are coing into the tailoring business la Philadelphia. Of course they'll try to suit their friends. Catcher Joe Sugden will not be witb Comiskey next season. It U said that he has sfjrned a contract to play with the Perfects.
Women as Well as Men Are Made Miserable by Kidney Trouble.
Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, discourages and lessens ambition: beauty, vigor ana cheertumess soon disappear when the kidneys are cut cf order or diseased. Kidney trouble has become so prevalent that it is not uncommon f r a chili to be born afflicted with weak kidneys. If the child urinates too often, if the urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child reaches an age when it should be able to control the passage, it is yet afflicted with bed-wetting, cepend upon it. the cause cf the difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment cf these important organs. This unpleasant trouble is due to a diseased condition cf the kidneys and bladder and not to a hatit as most people suppose. Women as well as men are made miserable with kidney and bladder trouble, and both need the same preat remedy. The mild and the immediate effect of Swamp-Root is soon realized.
