The government have climbed down from the position they had deliberately chosen, and, although the disappearance of the Clayton-Rulwer treaty will not cause much regret, many people will sigh for the 'business cabinet" which Lord Rosebeiy recently suggested." In conclusion the Daily Chronicle charac.er zes the new treaty as "a full acceptance by Great Britain of the Monroe doctrine." and says "it would be strange indeed if the senate should object to such a onesided bargain." The Times says: "It is premature to assume that all difficulties have been overcome and that the senate will ratify the treaty; but England has no reason to regard the construction of the canal with alarm or suspicion. We hope the treaty will be dealt with by our American kinsmen in the same spirit of internal good will with hich it will certainly be received in England."

The Sew Treaty lleceired With General Favor. London, Nov. 19. Except as affording a chance for the opposition journals to attack the government and the foreign secretary. Lord Lansdowne, the signing of the new isthmian canal convention does not excite strong interest in Great Britain, it is generally admitted that the British a" nothing jLu sain li-,. of the Clayton-Bulwe-r" treaty, while they have much to gain by the "construction of the canal. The Morning Post congratulates both countries on the completion of the treaty, and says it is glad that the convention of 1900 has been revised in accordance with American wishes. The Daily Mai! fears that the signing may not terminate forever a troublesome dispute and thinks Canada ought to receive some equivalent for the concessions which nrc.ahlx nave been made.

sentence cr death at Pittsburg, has requested Governor Stone to fix separate days for their execution. The Biddies, who are brothers, do not want to be hanged from the same scaffold on the same day. The day of their execution has not yet been fixed. The Biddies, together with Walter Dorntan. were convicted of the murder of Thomas Kahaney, while attempting to burglarize his home at Pittsburg. Dorman turned state's evidence and may for that reason escape the gallows. He has not betn sentenced yet. When officers went to Ed Biddle's room to arrest him he made a desperate resistance.

Runaway. At the Starr Piann Works yesterday one of the teams took fright at a car coming down the switch and ran away. It took pretty near half the force of the factory "to corral tbem and run them into the river before they could be captured. Jumped on a Ten Penny Nail, The little daughter of Mr. J. N. Powell jumped oa an inverted rake made of ten penny rails, and thrust one nail entirely through her foot and a second one half way through. Chamberlain's Pain Balm was promptly applied and five minutes later the pain had disappeared ar.d no more suffering was experienced.
