First Accident. The first accident in the construction of the municipal electric light plant occurred yesterday afternoon. A man named Graham was the victim. He is working for the New Castle bridge company who have the sub-contract for putting up the trusses in the building and was working in the coal bins in the second story. He was climbing a ladder which was standing too straight aid started to fall. He stepped hack and through a hole, falling a distance of twenty feet..His right wrist was broken. He was taken to the hospital. . Health Office. Diphtheria is reported in the fami.y of James Garrett, 739 north fifteenth street, Sophronia, aged -12 years. Diphtheria is reported in family of John Fitzgibbors, 43 south seventh street, Rhea, aged 5 years.

Dacb- Elmer, infant son of Mr. and Mrs Harry D?ub, died this moraine at the home of his parents. 417 south seventh street, of inanition. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be private. Interment at Lutherania. Staxley Zachariah J. Stanley died early this morning at his home 3 miles south of the city in Union county, of pneumonia, aged 82 years. Time of funeral announced Saturday. bars or rows of ermine, aecui.u ti their degree." Here follow the numerical graduations distinguishing between the ranks: Barons are allowed two rows of ermine, viscounts two and a half rows, earl three rows, marquises three and a ball rows and dukes four rows. All the man

terfeit pearls and all jewels from coronets, which are to be "silver gilt, the

caps of crimson velvet, turned up with

ermine, with gold tassels on top. N Jewels or precious stones are to be set in eoronets nor counterfeits of pearls Instead of silver balls." The number of the latter permitted revives a nice sens of distinction. A baron's coronet bears six silver balls, a viscount's sixteen, as earl's eight, - with gold strawberry leaves between; a marquis four balls and four leaves alternately; a duke's coronet has no balls and has only eight

gold strawberry leaves. The earl marshal next prescribes th robes, mantles and coronets to be worn by the ieeresses. These are of the same materials as the uieu"s, with similar graduations in the number of bars oi

ermine and balls. The length of the train marks the difference in rank. A

baroness is allowed a train of only

three feet, a viscountess has one and a quarter yards, a countess has one and

a half yards, a marchioness has one and three-quarter yards and a duchess twe yaris. GOLD IN THE KLONDIKE.

Plenty There. Saya the Inspector of the British Vnkon Mines.. Placer mining in the Klondike is yet In its Infancy, according to Dr, A. C. Robertson, inspector of the British Yukon mines, who has Just come out. He says; -As a placer paying proposition the Klondike has yet. in my judgment, twenty years of life, and for the nest ten years the annual output of gold will continue fr; in $15,000,000 to $20,00O.0O0i.By means of the dredge, steam shovel and hydraulic dredging I think every foot of ground heretofore worked in the Klondike will be reworked. This will be done of course in the summer. In fact, with the introduction of machinery the Klondike Is getting to be more and more a summer camp. "In view of these Improved conditions one must realize tbat they have only begun to-open up' the Klondike. The output will continue large. There will be no perceptible decrease In the yield for ten years, though the maximum output in a single-year may have been passed. I expect to see great things accomplished by steam shovels and hydraulic operatlotwr The latter, of course, require a lot of water, the supply of which, when exhausted In the creeks, will be from the Klondike river. One of the best indications that the Klondike is Jo be long lived is to be found in the permanent and very extensive purchase of Improvements. The new administration under Governor IIoss is making wonderful Improvements. Expenditure for roads alone this season exceeds $250,000. "The reduction of the royalty from 10 to 5 per cent, with an exemption of $5,000. has been a material faetor in bringing alout an increase In the annual output of the Klondike, and within twelve mouths I look to see the royalty abolished altogether and an export duty of 2 per cent substituted. This will force the establishment of an assay office in Dawson." San Francisco lljronicle.
