Is the Amount of Invested Capital In the Latest Combine. THE BIG COAL MERGER Seems to Ee Something More Than 31ere Gossip From the Reports Coraiu? From Pittsburg:. J. P. Morgan and the Railroads Have a Doable Interest In the Scheme. Pittsburg. Sept. 4. All the bituminous coal miuiug companies of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, West Virgina and Kentucky are to be consolidated into one grtat corporation by the J. P. Morgan syndicate. The enormous proportions of this corporation can hardly be realized. The fact that the Pittsburg Coal company with its capital of JH,00MH 0 and the Monongahela River Consolidated Coal and Coke company, with its capital of $30,000,O, are to be included in the greater consolidation brings the matter strongly before Pittsburg coal operators. These two conoratJous practically control all the output in the Pittsburg district and extend their oporations well down toward West Virginia in two directions. Officers of these companies are expecting to attend a meeting of the coal operators in New York on Thursday of next week, at which the preliminary steps toward Thj- formation of the greater combine win be w&rtrX& The railroads are also taking a keen interest in the project, and owing to the Morgan Interest predominating in that field, the consolidation is looked upon as being unusually strong. The Pennsylvania Railroad company, the Iialriniore ami Ohio Railroad company and Western roads under the Morgan influence are associated, it is said, in the great movement, which promises to rival in its importance the recent organization of the United States Steel corioration. The plans for the consolidation have leen going on quietly for some months. The plan of action is said to have -been to tirst get the minor conMrtlons of one state aud all the individual operators as well into j one company, on the same basis as the ; Pittsburg Coal company. After this had been accomplished, the intention i was to group all the companies and control them by a parent corioration as a stock owning company only. I '-The coinhlnattoa -ot tle Oluu iiell'l Is said to have tx-en brought into tairi ly good shape. The Indiana fields aud I those in Illinois are also in form for i the final move, as recent corporation j plans there have brought the many j individual coal interests together. In Kentucky the plan is still in an em- ! briotic state, but a company has beeu I planned with a capital of $10,000,000 to take up all tne coal mines there. The West Virginia fields are perhaps the most difficult to handle, owing to their location aud varied ownerships. The completion of this great project will mean the consolidation of from $2O.non.0O0 to $3tiO,Ooo,ooo of invested capital. OAlilNG HOLD IP Cotton Belt Train ltobbed of a Large Treasure. Texarkaua, Ark., Sept. 4. No. 1 Cotton Ilelt passenger train leaving Texarkaua at U:'2t last night was held up aud rob!ed near Kylau, four miles south of Texarkana. The roblers blew open the safe of the express car with dynamite, securing, it is said, a very lartre amount of booty. No passengers were molested. They were, however, -ery badly frightened and hid their valuables. The robliers, of whom there were tive, were evidently in possession of all facts concerning this partii-ular shipment of money, to gether with a schedule of tin; train as their scheme was successful in every respect.
