THE STRIKES.
Richmond's Share tii the Labor Troubles Moulders Out at Robinson's and the Mill Works. For a week past there has been ru
mors of strikes in this city unless requests made by workmen in various
branches were acceded to oy employ
ers, but nothing has been said in the papers because there was every likelihood that cot hiDg would come of it. All differences between employe) s and employed have always been easily
adjusted m this city, and nothing serious is even now apprehended. Ti e class of men in this city on both sides of the question are not the class usually found elsewhere, and a spirit of fairness has always prevailed here. The workmen in the shops stand on the same plane with the owners of the bbops, and usually have little to complain of in any way ; and for this reason, if for no other, no real fears of lalo troubles are ever entertained. : In one of the factories there was some trouble last week, but this is ah over and done cow. It amounted -o notbiog practically. It has been talked for several days that the moulders at Gaar, Scott & Co. 's, the Mill works and at Robinson & Co. 's were all demanding a raise of ten percent., and that unless this was granted would walk on- to
day. This happened and two tf the

fourteen in all, came down this morn
ing and after giving the foreman no
tice that they did not intend to work
walked out quietly and in an orderly
manner, lhe cleaners, core makers
and helpers remained. The men went
to their hall at the corner of Main
and fifth streets. Mr. Coale at th
wo ks this noon authorized us to sav
' that the action of the men would not
iii.'iarass them at all: that it would
l ot stop the works a minute; thai 1 hej will run right ou as if there had b. Vn no walkout. At Robinson & Co. 's the men did the same thing, coming down to the shop and giving notice that they would not work, and then going to their hall at the same place with thi men from the Mill Works. Here the request was for about ten percent, incrfease, and practically a recognition! of the union. The walk out will havfc no immediate effect on the running of the shops as they have a good supply of castings on hand. Of course whtfn the stock on hand is exhausted it will make a difference, but that willj not be for some time. Ajt Garr, Scott & Co.
