something new to present this year in addition to their usual meritorious programme. being-given last evening was an entertainment at St. John's Lutheran church to raise funds to apply on thr new Starr piano recently purchased by the congregation. The church was packed and the program wa? fine. There was a quartet by Win.
Radke, Carl Beck, Messrs. Hahn and Lahman; solo by Minnie Kauper, remarks by Mr. Bailey, recitation bj Mary Schurman, trio by Nora B:jes, Harry Schurman and Walter Feeger, scene by August Sturm, Cyrus Wiemeier and Chris Fulle, mixed quartette by Maidie Kemper, Flora Boes, Mr. Erk and Wm. Duning, clarinet solo by Prof. Beck, dialogue
by Herman Filgrim, Clara Fraumann, Carl Beck and Gussie Kunz, and selections by the male choir of the church consisting of twenty well trained voices. The c r'g.nal idea of Dr. Rucker of
offering prizes for amateurs to give the performance at the Gennett last evening filled the house to suffoca tion. There were a large number of amateurs who did stunts. The performance gave rise to the hope that at some time all these amateurs may get together and give an exhibition which will show that we are far ahead of towns twice our size when it comes to ability to please a critical audience. Among the best were Fred King in dialect; Horr, Williamsand Lane in tumbling, and Lane in a contortion act. The dancing by Harry Stephens was the real thing. Little Grace McConlogue was cute in her song and also in the sake walk with Walter Bass. Isabella Bass in the Spanish . dance was really the
most artistic of all. She was a pupil of Mrs. Harry Sullivan before Mrs. Sullivan's departure for the west. IVam 1 1 J, , .
