Beneficial Moral "Love's Labor Lost,

or How a Peddler Came to Grief in the Village of Fountain City. Word was received at the PalJ A V - A

lapicx otuee some iew uays ago na

a certain piano dealer in uicnmono. loaded a piano on his cart aud start

ed with it for the country, going

north. Their object was to try and find some person who would allow

them just to set the piano in meir

home on trial and allow it to remain

there for several days. hen the time limit (for trial) expired, these piano peddlers possibly thought that

all they had to do was to go to this

home a few days later ana sen me

;iano. These men on the wagon with the piano experienced a harder time than they thought for and were

not successful in hnding a piace

where they could leave their piano, but were not discouraged

and drove further on until final

ly they found themselves in i ountain

City. Here they were more fortunate

(or unfortunate for them as you win soon know). As they made the re

quest one of the citizens or roun-

tain Citv.wao. after he haa expiaineu to them that he had never thought

of buvim? a Diano. allowed them to

set the piano in his home "on trial." After placing the piano in the house

and exolaininsr the merits (that were

sunoosed to be in the piano) they left

rnt?ratulatin themselves that all

they had to do was to call (by an appointed time) and close the deal that would make the Fountain City citizen the owner of the piano. But

such was not the case, for a few days

ago this Fountain City citizen, after

havog once had the use ol a piano in 1 is home an i set i g the p'easure his

family derived from the use or it

himself became interested and decided

to look around and see where he could buy the best piano for the least money. With his mind fully

made up to buy a piano he entered

the warerooms of the Starr nano

Co. and was very courteously waited

on by air. u. l. ltoooins wno explained many of the true merits that

are to be found only in the Starr Piano. This Fountain City citizen was a very careful buyer and did not

want to make a mistake, for in his

own words "he wanted to buy

enoutrh piano for a generation," and

beiuir fully convinced that the Starr

Piano combined all the points that

were claimed for it reliability, age

favor with public, excellence

of workmanship, the best action made, richness and depth of tone,

just a little finer and more pleasing than any other make, and a piano

that has a factory guarantee behind it, he decided then and there to buy

a Starr oiano. paving cash for it.

This is onft of the many sales that

have reached the ears of the Palla-

mcm office and Mr. J. C. Evans of Fountain City (for this the Fountain City citizen of whom we speak) is to

be congratulated upon nis cnoice. ior he will never have a chance to regret

his ourchase of a Starr piano.

The moral to this joke is this

Competition is good for business, for Mr. Evans had i ever thoughtof buy-

ioff a piano until he allowed one o kx Dlaoed in bis borne. In examin

ing the Starr piano its merits so ap

pealed to his better judgement that

he nurchased one and price did not
