The story of the Impersonation of Captain Clark of the battleship Oregon by Julius Leon Moyse in New Orleans ereatcl a rt'marLaIe stir throughout the country. The unfortunate woman. Miss Ilertha Waeiiken of Cincinnati, who was Imposed upon by him aud induced to marry him. has returned to her home iu Cincinnati with her brother-in-law, who was also det rived. She. Lou-over, can throw no further viglit ou the crime. All nlie knows was ti.ade known iu the tirst airing of the case. The only one who could add to tiiu story was .Moyse himself .nd hith.to he l:i-. refused to say a word. t-i.,. t;,.s wo: k of the notice on the case was to trace his record. Thi was found to le none too good. When many discreditable facts were brought home to him, he was made to see the difficulty of his position and was Induced to tell the true story of the case, s ays a correspondent of the I'hiladel phia Times. In his story he claimed that the deception was just a device to start a flirtation with the girl and that when it succeeded he fell a victim to her charms. lie was afraid to reveal the truth of the situation for fear it would ruin his chances of winning her. If his tale Is true. It places the case In a pew light, and one that will make his conviction very ditficult. Your correspondent was present when he told his story to the police and was permitted to question hira further. The tale Is set forth herewith iu his own words. It certainly does not lack Interest and Is full of dramatic Intensity. It Is well worth the reading: "Of course, this is going to be the only story of this affair; nothiug else, aud it Is as true as you want It. Whether Bertha was a Uower girl In the hotel or sold things around tiiere. I do not know. But this much 1 do know full well, and tiiat is that I saw her in the rotunda, and she was a decidedly pretty girl. That caught my eye. for I love pretty women and of course tried to strike up a flirtation. But Bertha would not flirt. I was then in a gray suit. I never wore my uniform, and. without knowing her name. 1 wrote the note. A porter was a friend of mine, and I gave him the not, sr.ying I was Captain Clark. Ycu see. that was the first name that came to me. and I thought that It would catch Bertha, the idea of meeting the captain of a battleship. So the porter got the note, aud he was a little cautious with it. asking me if therewas anything in it that would make the lady mad. 1 said there was not and told him never to mind, as everything was polite. That note was delivered aud I walked away a little while. That was on Monday, understand. When I returned, the porter pointed me out to my brother-in-law, Mr. Aarouson, and the rest minute he came ud to me at Peter 'Johnson's Stove Mam Street. window, cor. Sth and north E STORE.

The next word he said to me was that his sister-in-law had turned over the note to him and he thought If there was to be an Introduction that he was the only person to give it. We were talk ing a little while, and of course 1 agreed to It. Then Mr. ISIoch came up, and Mr. Aaronson introduced rue as Captain Clark of the battleship Oregon. "Then I was In for It, and I deter mined to play the whole thing through. Understand, it was all for a flirtation then, and I did not think for one moment that there would be any further trouble. The first thing I did to put myself right and high was to ask Ut, Bloch if he would not come down to the battleship, say. that very night, for a bit of wine. But then later I excused myself and said I would name a time for a big supper. Mr. Aaronson was pleased to know me and introduced me to his sister-in-law In the hotel. That was a delightful treat, and I found myself In love with the girl, and I believe she cared for me then. I took Bertha by the arm and viewed the pa rade of Rex that is, the arrival of Rex. She was on a chair, and I was careful that she should not fall. We became very good friends, and the more I saw of her the more I loved her. I wanted to tell the truth and tell the girl who I was and all about myself, but then I feared that she did not love me and that the affair would not go too far. That night we viewed the parade at the coruer of St. Charles and Canal streets, and after that I, withMr. Aaronson and his wife, went out for a little supper. We went to the Imperial, and I drank wine, but Bertha would take none, and I was desperately in love with the girl. But, with all of that. I kept myself back and wanted to be sure that she reciprocated my love. I had the privilege of calling at her place on Rampart street, near Ca nal, and Mr. Aaronson was only too glad to have me to come with him Tuesday I went to the house and met Mr. Aaronson. and IV-rtlia was there. She greeted me so ni ely that I was sure that she laved me. That night we were out to a little stopper, and aft er that I went to her lumrding house, and It was there rhat 1 proposed to her. I asked her if she could love me if 1 was not Captain ("lark and if I was not rcn Asfiamcd To go anywhere with my face in this condition,'' is the expression of a very natural feeling. To a beautifal woman an eruption on the face is the greatest of calamities, her very beauty seeming to increase the disfigurement. Ninetyeight times in every hundred, eruptions are cured by Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, and the skin recovers its maiden bloom and softness. "Golden Medical Discovery "is a medicine which acts directly on the blood, purifying it, increasing its quantity and its richness. I could take her back to Krw-nvipe, remarry her as Moyse and theu e could live together In happiness. Iiu Mr. Aaronson bothered me with tba Captain Chirk business, and I eouldnot let out on myself then, for I wou!4 lose the girl, and I did not want to io that. So I had to bluff off my brher-ia-law. and that Is how I came to? invite Bloch to come aboard the vessel Wednesday night, and told him to invite his fricQds. as I wanted them to enjoy a good time on the water. That strengthened my hold MISS BERTHA WAEXKF.N. on Mr. Aaronson, and the bluff held irood. lecause 1 believe Mr. Bloch was getting ready to go to supper." "Well, the proiosal. The Eminent Prof pnnor'i Lesson All Thrown Away. "Yes, sir." said the man with the long hair ind the shiny Prince Albert coat, "you have an astral body, a body that, if you were an adept in the science to the study of which I have devoted many years of my life, you would project into space and cause to appear at places far remote from your corporeal person. You might, for instance, be here and cause your astral body to appear at Paris, to stroll alxmt among the wonders of the exposition. Ah, sir, it is magnificent! It is uplifting. It removes man from the base influ ences to which he has too long been subjected." "Well, professor," replied the man whose head was bandaged. "I admit that this is a fine doctrine of yours, end I'd kind of like to get it into my system. But say. Itefore I put any money up on this thing, there's one point I want to be clear on. You see I came pretty near getting killed the other day because somebody let. a brick fall from the second story just as I was at the right place lelow. Now, if It can be fixed so that it'll always be my astral body that gets hit with the bricks and things instead of me I'll let you come around and give me a few lessons." The professor then moved on, convinced that he had been parleying with a scoffer. Chicago Times-Herald. "HE TURF REVIEW. Creseens, 2X). Is said by his owner to have been a mile In 2:05.
