The old members of the city coun
cil who are now finishing up their
four years' term will have to attend
just two more regular meetings of
that august body. The new members
take their seats on tne evening or
the annual council meeting in May
immediately after the election, and
shortly after the first regular meet
ing of the council. There will be
seven new members.
Sergeant Krone states that when he went to serve the notice on the
owner of the property where the bad
tree was located on north ninth
street, he asked Frank Morris if he owned the property on th6 east side
and that Morris said he did. He states that he did not serve it until
Morris had acknowledged the owner ship of that property, and that Mor
ris acknowledged service. Morris
denies this statement in toto, and
6ays he aever said he owned the property on the east side of the
street. Mr. Krone says he is confi
dent that the circumstances are such
that Morris cannot recover anything
for the trees cut down.

Rice and her company at the Gen
nett last mgnt were nne, ana were highly appreciated by all. The first
bill, "My Lord in Livery," had
good deal of amateurism in it, and
made the people rather impatient because Miss Rice (or Mrs. Purdy)
aid not appear, yet tnere was some
meritorious work in it bv Miss Dud
lev and Mr. Cherry. When Miss
Rice appeared she was given an ova tion as she is a Richmond favorite,
She appeared first in "The Circus
Rider, "and no prettier little play has ever been presented here, and
Miss Rice never appeared to bette
advantage than she appeared in that
She took the audience by storm. The
clssing number, "The Milliner's Bill," was a spicy and realistic little
bit, and pleased the audience im
mensely.
The commencement of the Webster
township school vesterday afternoon
was successful. The graduates were
