Aan.al Repen Showiog Work, Cooflitioa aad Prospect ot lbs Orcaoizatioo. The work of the AssociattnJ Chari ties has continued another year with the usual encouragements and discouragements, and it is well to bear in mind the words, "Be not weary in well doing, for in due season we snail reap, if we faint not." To those who are interested in this work, and so generously aid us, we wish to extend our sincere thanks and hope the report of the year's work may be of interest to them. November 21, 18ci, marked th1 tenth anniversary of our existence. During the past year the regular business meetings have been held at headquarters each month, a number
of meetings of the executive txiurd as well as headquarters meetings
every Monday afternoon. lhe work at headquarters was established in November ISI'5, during which
month six washings and four irouings were taken in and nine women
employed. In January, 1SU7, the
work had. increased to fort v-ei ''tit
washings and twenty-one ironings.
giving employment to twenty-four
women: Januarv, 199, washings 8,
ironings 32; January, 1900, .washing
144, ironings yt, almost doubhnir the
number of washings. During the month 203 meals were given to women and children. ' The Industrial School, so often planned for, aud so much needed, does not yet exist, and it has been decided to tske the young girls, in the homes where help is employed, and train them in different lines of
domestic work, and we hope our efforts in this direct ion may prove successful, as we feel this training will prove of benefit for life, and enable these girls to help themselves. The missionary's work during the past year has been quite heavy. The work at the mission schools is growing and the missionary has given much of her time to this work, holding special services at both missions. She reports having placed four persons in the "Home for Friendless," one girl placed in the Orphans' Home, one girl and boy in Home for the Feeble Minded at Ft. Wayne and one woman sent to the poor house. The plan adopted last year by the finance committee of placing before the citizens a circular letter asking for their assistance in carrying ou the work of this society, has again been followed. Five hundred circular letters were sent out, and we are pleased to report that generous responses have been received, although all letters have not been answered as yet. At Thanksgiving the public schools responded to our call with generous donations of provisions and money. The sewing committee have made a. number of garments during the year. ANNCAJ, REPORT OF THE TREASURER. Total receipts for the vear ending March 1, 1900, $2,572.27; disburse ments, $1,953.31. Balance on hand, $618.76. Of the above receipts $982.35 was for work done at headquarters, and from contributions $1,589.92. The receipt? of the past year exceeeded those of the previous year, $2,223 26: the disbursements were $107.5! more. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Following are the officers elected for the ensuing year: Mrs. Charles G. Carpenter, president. Mrs. L. II. Bunyan, first vice-president. Mrs. Samuel Doughty, second vicepresident. Miss M. E. Hinshaw, secretary. Mrs. George H. Knollenberg, treasurer. The finance committee is pleased that such an excellent report of the Associated Charities can be presented to the public at the close of the year. It us a fact well known to the lople of Richmond that the self sacrificing work of the women in charge has brought much relief to the needy and been helpf j1 in many ways. Begging in our community has ceased; intelligent, judicious aid to the poor (largely through the agency of the Associated Charities) has taken its place. The means entrusted to the association we believe to have been used with discretion, and we trust that in the future as in the past the genrosity of our citizens will be extended for the furtherance of this work tu'ong us. Benjamin Johnson per John II. Johnson, John B. Dougan per George II.
