SAPHO Will SHOW.

The Mayor Has No Powr to Prevent

Its Appearance Here Players Can

be Arrested if Exhibition is Ob

jectionable.

The ministers' committee waited

on Mayor Zimmerman yesterday af

ternoon and asked with regard to the

play "Sapho" which will come hither

next Saturday night. The mayor informed the committee that he had no

jurisdiction over individual perform

ances, as the play houses have season

licenses. The only way in which the play could be prevented would be to arrest the individual players if their

performances prove indecent. This necessitates the presentation of the

play, and "Sapho, 'J or at least such part of it as the officers of the law do not prohibit, will be here next

Saturday night at the Gennett.

"At the White Horse Tavern" drew such an audience to the Gennett last night as was reasonably expected, for the fame of this splendid comedy company had preceded their coming. The expectations of those present were of course high, but they were fully realized. Where all played their respective parts so well it would be unjust to single out any one as the star of the company. "two married MtS." For good, wholesome, delicious comedy, one should witness this performance of "Two Married Men" which plays an engagement, at the Phillips opera house tonight. There has been no better attraction offered to playgoers this season than this laughter-provoking offered from the pen of Geo. R. Edeson, one of the best known and most popular of actors and authors. The two married men meet in the house of the actress in Brooklyn, one being there for the purpose of putting a stop to the embarrassing actions of the latter, the other to pay his wife her usual monthly allowance. The wife and mother-in-law appear on the scene and to the astonishment of all the actresses is discovered to be the wife of the sympathizing friend. They become reconciled to each other and all ends welL In each of the three acs many bright specialties are introduced. Prices 25, 35 and 50. JOSIAH JOSKINS Will be at the Phillips tomorrow night. The street parade tomorrow noon will be great. Everybody will be in waiting for it. 10, 20, 30. Get a reserved seat at Westcott

As an Introduction to our Spring Silks

BERG'S we set apart TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY

or tltls week as

SILK

DAY

Our thorough search of the silk markets has enabled us to bring together a collection of silk fabrics that is simply superb.

It is not an easy matter to describe the varieties and convey to the reader a proper conception of the beautiful designs and colorings, hence we invite a visit to our store for an inspection of the collection.. To say anything concerning values and prices we deem unnecessary it is a fact too well established that these will be right to need special mention. We cannot afford to give our trade any other than right prices where values are taken into account ; hence quality, style and price all enter in, and we know that no disappointment awaits our friends and patrons, and feel sure great satisfaction will be expressed by all.

Larly purchases do not only secure to the buyer the choicest selections, but also prompt work from the dress makers, two points well worthy of consideration. Do not fail to visit our store on
