A letter from Miss Jennie T. Masson of Indianapolis, secretary of the state Y: P. S. C. Still More Counterfeiting. i The secret service has unearthed another band of counterfeiters, and secured a large quantity of bogus bills, which are so cleverly executed that the average jx-rson would never suspect them of being spurious; Things of great value are always selected by counterfeiters for imitation, notably the celebrated Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, which has many imitators but no equals for indigestion, dyspepsia, constipation, nervousness and general debility. The Bitters set things right in the stomach, and when the stomach is in gixxl order it makes good blood and plenty of It. In this manner the Bitters restores vigor to the weak and debilitated. EXCITING GAME.
OPENING POLO GAME OF THE SEASON Proves One of the , Most Exciting Ever Witnessed ia Thie City The Score Was 2 to 2 Hairagains Prove a Tough Proposition for the Henley s. The "Hairagains "and the Ilenleys played an exciting game of polo last night at the ring and opened the season in an auspicious manner, b playine one of the best games evei seen in this city. The score tt the close of the third inning was 2 to 2, and should hsve been played off to decide the winner, but Mr. Henley refused to do so on account of the injury to one of his players. The 'Hairagains," managed by Martin, put up a surprisingly warm game and make the claim that ifjthe time in the third inning had not been extended the game would not have resulted in a tie, but the. score would have been 2 to 1 in the Hairagain's favor. - On the other hand Mr. Henley claims the exact time limit was observed and that the time was taken out when the players were stopped for any cause. Both sides played a remarkably . fast game and both seemed determined to win at all hazards. The Henley players were the more tricky of the two teams. Young Mansfield probably put up the most brilliant game of the evening, and for a man who has played very little, he gives promise ol becoming one of the best in the city. Stevens and Bver for the Henleys played in their usual fine form, while Williams and Byers did excellent work for the Hairagains Byers was hurt slightly several times during the game, but each time pluckily went back into the game. The attendance was the largest of the season thus far and both the old and new balconies were well tilled. Another game will be arranged for in the near future and the tie will be played off. NARROW ESCAPES. A Record of Two of Them A Painur At the Court House This Morning, Robert McXamara's Close Call. This morning at the court house James Logan had a narrow escape from instant and violent death. He was working on a scaffold at the third story windows on the north end of the court house, when the end of the scaffolding gave way. lie was some forty feet from the ground when the scaffold slipped, and ht would have been killed in stantly and mangled at that had . he not pluckily hung to a rope and let himself down by means of the rough stones of the building. The red paint was spilled all over the end of the court house and on the gray stone it looks very much as 11 a half dozen men had been stabbed just above the bloody streak that runs down the side of the build ing. Some dai's ago Robert McNamara of this city had a narrow escape from a horrible death at Indianattolis. lie was employed as firemau in the rail road yards, and was under a locomo tive cleaning out an ash pan when the engineer, not knowing Robert was under there, started the engine. McNamara had the presence of mind in his great fright to seize the axle of the engine and yell like a Calniuc Tartar. The engineer heard his cries and stopped the machine and Robert crawled out unhurt. He quit his job and came home to Richmond. Underwear ForEverrbody Underwear for men, women, youths. misses and children, all kinds, many grades, at very desirable prives. See our line. The Geo. H. Kxollenbebu Co. RINGS. The present is to be a "riny season" unsurpassed in fashion's anuals. A striking ruiK consists of Gve diamonds in a straight bar crossing the hoop at right angles. A pink topas heart makes an attractive ring. Pink and other colored pearls, as solitaires, are anion elegant rings. A novelty in men's all gold seal rings is one differing from the ordinary ring in that the surface of the portion usually devoted to the seal is slightly rounded instead of flat. Among inexpensive rings, fire opals In various combinations witu small oruliants are in favor, as is a small emerald or a ruby with one or more diamonds in graceful two and three stone desinx. Jewelers Circular. RAILWAY TIES. Belgium has the largest amount of rail road in comparison with its total area. the amount being 3H.2 miles to each square mile of area. In Sweden street cars rarely 6top to pick up or to set down passengers, and the satires of both sexes are wonderfully expert to jumping on and off while the cars are in motion.
