A war is on at Indianapolis between

the Central Union and the Independent telephone companies. The former will of coarse make desperate efforts to hold on to its soft snap, Iut the Indaoendent com Dan v seems to have

come to stay and the people will get cheaper telephone service.

In our telegraph columns today appears a story of the fight between our soldiers and the heathen Filipinos. This fiflht and its consequent loss of American lives is due largely to the influence the anti-expansion congressmen have had in delaying the ratification of the peace treaty. No futther comment is necessary. Shame on them!

this time "will - simply mean several weeks of delay, wh'ch will do a g od deal of harm, and the expense of an extra session of congress. Ten Democrats who are opposed to the ratifica. tion of the treaty will be retirtd the fourth of March and the ten Republicans who will take their plaees will add enough to the majority to make the necessary two thirds favoring ratification. Meaawhile the people will be heard from.

Consumptive

II Did you ever see one?

jJid you ever hear of one ? Most certainly not. Consumption is a disease that invariably causes loss of flesh. If you are light in weight, even if your cough is only a slight one, you should certaiuly take Scott's Emu si ion of cod liver oil iuith hypophosphites. No remedy is such a perfect preventive to consumption. Just the moment your throat begins to weaken and you find you are losing flesh, you should begin to take it. siro to S.ii to pay for keeping a cow.

It will be thus seen that as far as milk I 2

is concerned the cows from the poore

debt, the only redeeming feature being the value of the calf produced. These figures illustrate very clearly the need and likewise the possibility

of materially increasing the income f xiu the dairy eovr.
