KING ABSENT.
1 tic- FUolter Failed to Aoptar on tha Soana at tha High Sihool Ha I. There was a fair-sized audience last eveninar at High School ball to hear Prof. Byron Kinsr recite and see him impersonate, but throughout the evening he impersonated the absent man. la other words, he did not appear at all unless it was in the spirit Those present were Tery much disappointed, as they had anticipated and doubtless would hare had a tieat had the expected speaker arrived. He was to have come on the 7:15 train from Pittsbnrp, bat not only did be absent himself, but sent no telegram f apolo fry or explanation as to his absence. The management that had been successful in securing the date chased about the city everywhere thinking; that perhaps the man had eome and they had missed him. However, the time for the entertainment came, the crowd cheered henever it felt like it, a feeble quartet quavered out a tune in one corner, and everybody was in a laughing mood. At 8:30 Prof. Ellabarger arose and stated the cir umstanees as far a he knew them, told them that perhaps the man would be at Centerville this evening, said he did not understand the situation at all, arranged for a return of the admission fee to all who would call at Robs' drug store after Saturday night, and dismissed the audience, who went home disappointed, yet in stirring good humor. The cadets acted as - doorkeepers, and made a good appearance. To Cure Cold In Ona Day TakeLaxative Bromo Quinine tablets. All druggists refund the money if it fails to cure. 25c. The genuine has L. B. Q. on each tablet. "Itching hemorrhoids were the plague of my life; was almost wild. Doan'a Ointment cured me quickly and permanently, after doctors had failed." C. F. Consumption is a disease that invariably causes loss of flesh. If you are light in weight, even if your cough is only a slight one, you should certainly take Scott's Emuslion of cod levtr oil tviih hypophosphites. No remedy is such a perfect preventive to consumption. Just the moment your throat begins to weaken and you find you are losing flesh, you should begin to take it. And no other remedy has cured so many cases of consumption. Unless you are far advanced with this disease, Scott's Emulsion will hold every inducement to you for a perfect cure. Your Danoar Now Is from the overworked condition of the liver and kidneys which are nnable to expel impurities from the blood. This causes rheumatism. Hood's Sarsaparilla has been wonderfully successful in curing this disease. It neutralizes the cid in the blood and permanently enres the aches and pains which other remedies fail to relieve. Hood's Sarsaparilla is the beet winter medicine because it purifies, enriches and vitalizes the blood It gives help just where help is needed. It tones the stomach, stimulates the liver and arouses and sustains the kidneys. It wards off pneumonia, fever, bronchitis, colds, coughs and the grip. Dr. Wood's Norway Pine Syrup seems especially adapted to the needs of the children. Pleasant to take; soothing in its influence; it is the remedy of all remedies for every form of throat and lung disease. A Giant Nerve Builder. GLuken & Co., druggists, 630 Main street, Ballard & Snyder 1030 Main street, Richmond. 5 CURRENT MISCELLANY. The smallest restaurant in Baltimore, and probably in the country, is located on Grant street, near Baltimore, under tbe shadows of The News bnilding. Its proprietor is Norman W. Tnmblinson, aged 29 years, whose father has a larger place on Baltimore street. He caters only for the trade of the newsboys, and does a thriving business in 3 cent lunches and cheap ticklers of tbe palate. The restaurant is in a small frame room, attached to the building on the west side of Grant street, and is about 20 feet long and a yard wide. Formerly it was used as a bootblack stand. Yonng Tnmblinson secured permission about eight months ago to open a stand iu the place. He had it thoroughly cleaned and painted inside and out, and then erected a small counter, leaving barely enough room to walk about. Next he secured three oil stoves, and then hung out neat placards announcing his opening. The newsboys took him into their hearts, and many odd pennies fell in his way. At first he sold milk shakes and candy, cakes and sandwiches, but he now furnishes a lunch for S cents for newsboys only, including soup, choice of beef, liver or pork, with mashed potatoes and pickled beets. Coffee is 1 and 3 cents a enp, cheese sandwiches 1, S and' 3 cents, ham sandwiches 1 cent, soup 3 and 5 cents a bowl, and other things in proportion. Tbe newsboys swear by tbe restaurant keeper because he jokes with them and often feeds a poor and hungry waif for nothing. Baltimore News. Ha Turned the xatilea. i Sometimes a practical joke is a great success, and tben again it ia apt tc prove a boomerang. Harry Pratt, a reporter resicing in Delaware .unty, turned tbe tables on several political friends who had put tip a little game on him. Pratt is very popular in hi district and takes bat slight interest in politics. Wishing to have his assistance in tbe local fight several of the workers approached him at different times and asked for his appearance in behalf of their candidate. As Pratt bad refused to attend any of their meetings these enterprising politicians got op a little scheme which they figured won Id be a success. A meeting was billed for a certain town, several speakers were engaged to give their views and Pratt was invited down to report the affair. Ar-, riving at the place he was ushered intc ' the hall and given a prominent place on tbe stage. After tbe speakers had mad a strong plea for tbe candidate in quea tion tbe chairman of the meeting an nonnced in faltering terms that Mr. Pratt wonld give bis views on tbe issue. Tbe schemers thos thought that, pot o his mettle, Pratt would at least make a few remarks fcr tbeir man. The scribe at once got on to tbe game and, to the consternation of tbe wily workers, arose and commenced a glowing eulogy for tbe rival tat-iidato He continued f peaking in this strain nntil tbe uproar which ensued dipered the meeting.
