THE EVANSVILLE DEAL.
Additional l.-formation About thsVart Orman Deal for ths St. George Hotel. (Evn.vle Journal-News. Novenibr 1S The lat of the fifty signatures to the subset ipiion fund of $o,000 to be presented to Fred Van Orman when the St. George hotel is ready for opening ws secured yesterday morning, and the deal is thus sealed. A week ago Friday a number of gentlemen volunteered to make a cat -vass among the business men to raise the fund. A conference was with th owners of the hotel and Mr. Van Orman. The latter agreed to raise his offer $2,500 and take the hotel ir the eonimitfee could secure $5,tt'0 for him. The proposition was atistaetory to all concerned and the committee started to work. In the first tweutyfour hours the signatures of thirty-fi.e men were secured, each pledging him self to give one hundred dollars. More than the amount needed has been subs-ribed, and the committ e did not see all the men whooi they desired to give a chance to show their loyalty to Kvansville. Not a single man who sirrned the paper protested, and thev were all anxious to make a substantial showing i f heir regard for the welfare of Evausvtlle. The member of the committee fel irreatly encouraged by the manifestations of the loyalty of the citizens of Evansville and believe that an era of great prosperity to the city will date from the clsing of the hotel negotiations this morning, as there seems to be a eeneral desire to get together and pull for Evansville. In these efforts the gentlemen who raised this fund will always be found willing helpers and they deserve the thanks of the entire city for their grand work in this deal. The hotel will be opened with a grand bar.qutt to welcome Mr. Van Orman to the city. He will be in the city Wednesday to begin remodeling the building. He will employ home labor as far as practicable. All the papers for the transfer have been signed and bear the war revenue tamps which make the drcuments genuine so that the deal is fully com pleted. The agreement is that bmns ot $5,000 is raised when the that Fred VanOrman will close the deal with the ! bank and refit and refurnish the St. George hotel in strictly first-class style, expending $30,000 on the building and $30,000 on the furnishing. Robbed the Grave. ' A startling incident of which Mr. John Oliver, of Phila Jelphia, was the subject, is narrated by nine as follows: "1 was in a most dreadful condition. My 6km was almost yellow, eyes sunken, tongue coated, pain continually in back and sides, no appetite gradually growing weaker day by day. Three physicians had given me up. Fortunately, a friend advised trying i "Electric Bitters," and to my great joy and surprise, the first bottle made a decided improvement. I continued their use for three weeks, and am now a well man.
