EARLHAM Lecture Course Now Assured and Hearty Support Bteougbt -What tbe Numbers Are to Be Oratorical Class rrimarifs Ovei List of Winners Foot Ball Notes Arrangements were inaugurated yesterdty and perfected today for the lecture course to be given this winter at Earl .am. With the burning of the Bradley opera huse and the abandoriig of the Popular Lecture Course in the city, an opportunity was eriven for a different organization to take up the work Prof. E. P. Trueblood of the elocutionary department of Earlham promptly saw the chance for the college tj ob'.ain for itself such a course and at the same tims interest the pub lic in general to such an extent that it would become possible for Earlham to continue the work. He succeeded in interesting the fac ulty and the Literary seciety, and Miss Oliver was obtained as an experiment. Her number was an unqualified sue cess financially and every way. It is now proposed that the lecture course will be conducted by committees from the faculty, Ionian and Phoenix Band literary sosieties and from the Alumni associations. The thrte former committees met last evening and diseussed the plan. The Alumni association will meet to morrow evening and select their com mittee. The work thus reaches every phase of the college public, and if the Rich mond people co-operate tne course mav be a success, and as it is not de si'ous to clear money a better class of lecturers may be obtained. Prof. E. P. Trueblood this morning received a letter from General J. B. Gordcn, agreeing to lecture he, very probably on December 13. At any rate his will be the first number. The others will be Prof Clark, the elocutionist; George Kennan, the Siberian exile, an I correi pondeat for the Outlook in Cuba, Hon. W. D. Foalke and Prof. D. W. Dinni9 of this city. A canvass of the city will be taken tomorrow. OTHER EASLHiM SEWS. j The class primaries iu oratory to get representation for the college eontest tn December 1, in which eontest Earlham's representative to the iatercollegiate contest will be chosen, were com-, leted last evening with tbe Sophomores. A great deal of in terest has been taken and Earlham's prospects to win the state are very favorable indeed. A larger number competed this year than usual. The six fortunate ones who will represent their classes in the college contest with their subjects are: Harold Kapp, Richmond, Freshman "The Disarmament of the Nations." G. C. Levering, Mayville, Tenn., Sophomore "Gladstone 8. Bismarck." - Oscar Moore, Marion, J unior "Sim"n Bolivar. Rayner Kelsey, Chicago, Junior "Prince Bismarck.'r Chas. Worley, Monrovia, Senior "Cuban Intervention." Earle Haro!d, Richmond, Senior "Louis Kossuth." N w nuts of all kinds, and 4 Florida oranges. 3IEYER BROS.

The proceeds she laimed were to be divided between aerself d St Mary's church of this aity. "esirous to get the j b out in She had Lot bc-eu long .one ."ffiee until Father McMullen ary 's came to this ( ffiee and at the woman is a f raud, and that sbi was not authoriz' d to do any -uch tryrk for St. Mary's chnrch. Then tkc quit it. ' The mater got into the papers and her j b wns done. She 'eft the north nii:th street boarding house wjcere she had been staying, and ent t another boarding house, aying tii"t ; be was leaving town. It as asc Ttained where the had moved o, and fie police kept her under sarveillai cfi. Last night it was found bat thtjtctc tided to leave town, and he was?ppteh cded at the dopot by 5.rg?ans hmi:a and Krone, as she va at v e ticket window at the depot, basing a ticket tor Anderson. Ind. f oue pave her name as Catheriue Lynch, but it ibolieved that the name ?iven i an alits.and tridt she has a real name, somethii g like Mrs. J. B. Clinon. . Sbe was locked up peudirg an nveetiefctioa. She ha i with h.jr quite a number if book that she had gotten up for various churches in the cities in this part cf tho west, and was appa--ently tticg ready to work more of them. The churches have presented fy marks for this sort cf work, and the merchants have taken up with the schemes under the pressure of the woman's tongue and for the purpose of getting rid of her. She had on her oerKnn a number of letters from other women who are in the t-arue line of business, and one of them U from a yonng (f) girl who tells of a boarding house ia this city where she nearly starved to death, and of the young men With whom whe had a good time, when here working the same sort cf bus;ries8. The chara Vif of the letters shows that th4 women regarded their bnsi 3tmrmirVegedthe fhurchfs as easy victims m tnat tne. The one arrested also had a qaart bot tle of whisky on her person when arrested.1 I This, she said, fhe bonght when she found she wai going to get into trouble. Everything about the woman shows that she and those with her ai"e woiking the country from Maine to Omaha, with their cook book and directory scheme, and that they are exceptionally smooth. The woma caught says she is from Battle Creek, Mich., and it is believed that she does come from somewhere in that vicinity. &he had $o with her, and had collect ed a goodly sum in this city, besides having had iOJQe tailoring work done here. She is a good dresser, having something of the appearance of the modern "tailor-made" girl. The woman collected quite a sum of money here in this city for advertising that never has been and never will be published, in all probability. The printing is in the hands of M. Cullaton & Co., whom she engaged to do the work, and he too, will be "stuck" for his money unless the woman gets out and decides to stay and make good the debts she bas contra te I and the money that has been paid to her for the advertising. A , A A M Thursday afternoon tt Connersville, occurred the marriage of Miss Madge Mooiy and Mr. A. T. Gillispie, both ot this city. After a short visit with re lations m that city they will return to their home, 210 north seventeenth street, where they will be at home to their friends after November 20. iur3. narry uownmg received a I large number of ladies yesterday af ternoon at her home on north D street fiom 2 to 4 and from 4 to 6.
