I Collier Downe to visit him in New York and spend a night at ti French Ball. He is suddenly calleu tway to Poiladelph a on business, and leaves a letter for Downe to present to his New York club friend, Wright Innitt. Downe drops the letter on tbe tlor, and "A Stranger in New York" rinds it and decides tint he thould de liver it to the man to whom it is addressed. He does so, and Wright Innitt at once recognizes him as I Collier j Downe, and introduces him to friends, j Tnere arise the r complications, for; Wright ilnnitt refuses to allow the stranger to explain. In the second act comes the scene of a private room at the French ball. I. Collier Downe and his friend, Cunn'mg Swift, appear and decide that it will not do to disclose the mistake, bat it is shown that I. Collier Djwne' wife is suspicious and has come to New York, employing a detective and fake society leader to trace her hucbar,d. Complications follow fastfand fun waxes furious. I. Collier Downe tries to respond every time his name is called, and has no opportunity as "the stranger" pushes him to the rear. A side element of fun is furnished by tbe fact that Mrs. Virginia Pryde, a married woman and a belle of Richmond, decides to go to the ball attended by her friend's brother. The outcome of the various complications are that Mrs. I. Collier Downe goes to the ball, finds herself mistaken because her husband is locked in the elevator, and the man bearing his name has no resemblance to him She tries a waltz with the "Stranger" and is caught in the act by her husband, all ending happily for everybody except Mr. I. POPULARITY
That I Dittrvid, In tn C of Prof. W. E. Wlntbu g When a man is popular in his position, it proves that he is fit for that place and that he is doing the wot k to the satisfaction of that a"l-powerful thing called the m: jority of his constituency. No man has proven more popular in his line of work than ha ! county superintendent of schools. Th vint ol tne county supeumeaueci, say the teachers, is looked forward to with pleasant anticipation hv tha nnnili. The respect and VJ r t , good ft ling the pupils and teachers have for him n&s not oeen n own in any other manner so toucbinsly or so nrtnvinrinelv as in the fact that, in the celebration of Arbor day in each of the district of the county, not one ot tue schools failed to name one tree "Wineburg." This is a monument of which the superintendent may well feel nrond. as an eloauent expression of affection and tender renexbrance. Not worth pavine attention to, you say. Perhaps you have had it for weeks. It's annoying because you have a constant desire to cough. It annoys you also because you remember that weak lungs is a family failing. At first it is a slight cough. At last it is a hemorrhage. At first it is easy to cure. At last, extremely difficult. Amor's quickly conquers your little hacking cough. There is no doubt about the cure now. Doubt comes from neglect. For over half a century Ayer's Cherry Pectoral has been curing colds and coughs and preventing consumption. It cures Consumption also if taken in time. Keep eat of r. jiger's cnerrs Pectoral Plasters tier oar tags II i CM3&. Shall wa send yom m book on this subject, free? Oar Modfoai Dmpmrim onf.
