0, YE OF LITTLE FAITH.

Bat when an honest man 65 yea-s of a?e, and who has lived in oar city f jr thirty years and owns hU own property, speaks we must pive ear to his words and hare faith in what he r commends. For that reason we publish for the benefit of Richmond people the statement of A. II. West. 211 North street, Saginaw, Michigan, as fjllowr: My back was very lame; was quite nervous at times, and my general hedth was seriously impaired. Borne time a?o I was indueed to try Morrow's Kid-ne-oids, of which I had heard a great deal, and I procured the remedy. I had not much faith in it, as I previously had tried a large number of kidney pills and kidney remedies without any r articular benefit, but I want to say that I got simply won derful relief within two days aftet commencing the nse of Kid-ne-oids. and that I am now entirely cured. I regard my cae as a severe test of the medicine, as so many others failed to help rce. My advice to kidney snfftrers is to give Morrow's K-d neoids a thorongh trial and find relief a I did. Mr. West had no faith at first, but the assurar.ee of his friends induced him to try jnce aarain. The result igiven above. Let Mr. West be you friend and if you suffer with back ache, sleeplesnes, nervou-me s, etc., take his advice and use Morrow's K-d ne-oids and get cared. Mr. West is a erateful man and will be glad to write yon how much he was benefited by thf nse of Morrow's Kid-ne-oids, f you wih enclose a 6tamp for reply. Do not confound Morrow's Kid ne-oids witl any kind of kidney pills; they are not pills at all but yellow tabltti which are put np in wooden boxes and sell at fif'y cents. Morrow's Liver-Lax are very small red pellets and eure con&ti pation; they sell at "0 cents a box. lioth of these remedits are for sale by all first class druggists and at A. ONE OBJECT OF A UNANIMITY OF FURPOSE AL8NG REPUBLICANS EVERYWHERE. Patriotic Resnnnse to the DeKIuaix: Upon the Party to Complete the Great Worl: Begun In the Election of McKinley. The one great issue of the state elec ' tions this year has been defined by the Republican party. Indiana Republic ans have ppoken vigorously and unani mously. New York Republican pre sent an unbroken front, and so ail along the graud march of the nation, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, ia the mighty purpose to sustain the Mc Ki n - ey adnji uistration, for the McKinley administration deserves it. Want applies to the Republicans in one sutt&applies to all. An example is given of this unanimity tt sentiment. It U taken from the spirit that animates the campaign iu Iu liau.i and New Tfojlte."11' Iu a lettt-r sent oat to Indiana Re publics na last week Chairman Hetnly said: -. As the campaign progresses we feel lie great iuiportauce of the resalt, and every day impresses ns with its national i:flieuce end effect. Not since 1S64 ias the nation been so on trial as m.nis campaign, and we believe that tne people will rally to the support of the flag and the McKiulev administration, and hat much enthusiasm will prevail beure election day. We must stand by our country in the year with Spain and emphasize the great victories of our army and navy by supporting the ad ministration which so successfully proscuted the same, and we again appeal to the people and their patriotism and ask thorn to stand by McKinley and the p, as we appeahni to them to stand by Lincoln and the flag in years gone by. "The success of the opposition in this election means a return to the starved and demoralized condition of the conntry in 1W3-95. and a repudiation of a protective tariff with its attendant prosperity; it means repudiation Of the present gold standard and the estab lishment of silver mouometalisrn and dishonest money, because the Demoratio party is pledged to the free coin age 01 silver at the ratio or 16 to 1. The success of the opposition means a rebuke to the McKinley administration, which has prosecuted the most successful foreigu war in the lifetime of the nation, and its humiliation in the face of the nations of ihe earth. The success of the opposition means aid and comfort to the Spaniards, encouraging hem to insist on terms of peace, which this country may not be able to grant. hus provoking a renewal of hostilities. It also means an invitation to foreign nations to interfere with the settlement of the Philippine question. It means encouragement to the insnr and malcontents iu Cuba and the P pine islands, thus having a ten to keep them from a peaceful esceuce iu the government of the auds by this country." While the above was reaching hearts and arousing the enthusias Indiana Republican,- heir treter New York were responding with shint nd hurrahs to Chaunce M Dep eloquence in their state convent Among many good things said by (LIr. Dcpew was the following: Y4, "The wildest dream ever born Tthe magination of the most optimi libeliever in our destiny could not i 1 -see when McKinley was elected two -ars ago the ourushing torrents of events of the past three months. We cannot, re treat or hide. We mast ride the wives and direct the storm.' A war has Been fought and won, and vast possessions, new and far away, have been acquired. In the short space of 113 days politicians and parties have been forced to meet new questions and to take sides Upon tartling issues. The face of the world has been changed. The maps of yester day are obsolete. I 'The times require constructive statesmen. As in 17i6 and 18tw, we need architects and builders. We have but one school for their training and education, and that school is the Republican party. Our Republican ad ministration, upon which tremendous responsibility rests, must have a Repub lican congress for its support in the next two years two years of transcendent importance to our future. 'Friends and enemies alike join in the general satisfaction with the wis dom, sagacitv and statesmanship of President McKinley. A protective tarflf, sound money the gold standard. he retirement of the government from the banking business and state issues are just as important as ever. Until three months ago to succeed we would have had to satisfy the voters of tne soundness and wisdom of onr position on these questions. The cardinal princi ples of Republican policy will be tha ulatform of this canvass and of fntnre A New Ctwtaeie. The old obstacles that used to prevent the marriage of loving coupJcs sre out of date. CUeA. ve cjuuui y ei Ker uui afnncan constituencies haT settled convictions on t-n in. rial expansion and the government of distant islands and alien races. We can say that Republican opinion glories in our victories and follows the flag " Congre-smau eren E. Payne was chairman of that oouvt-ntsou and he said: "Shall we trut the settlement of the new questions of today, to those who two years ago were making a crusade aaint law and order, again t American credit and appealing to tne lewest motives of the citizen; or shall 3 stand by the administration and give to President McKinley at the national capital a senate and a house of representatives which will aid him iu every patriotic endeavor, to carry souna sys tents of government into these islandl of the sea? "The question before the people is simply this: Is William McKinley to stand alone at cue end of the avenue, with a hostile house and a hostile senate at the other, or are we to stay up the arms of that brave, gliaut. wise, patriotic president and give him at the other end of the avenue, not only a house of representative, but a senate that will help Lim to solve these problems?" In harmony with this spirit of nationalism, the following was enthusiastically adopted as the great proposition of the times. "We realize that when the necessities of war compelled our nation to destroy Spanish authority iu the Autilles and iu the Philippines, we assumed solemu duties aud.obligations, alise to the pKple of the islands we conquered and to the civilized world. We cannot turn these islands back to Spain. We cannot leave them, unarmed for defense and untried in statecraft to the horrors of domestic strife or to partition among European powers. We have assumed the responsibilities of victory, anil wherever our flag hus got:e there the liberty, the humanity and the civilization which that flag embodies and represents must remain aud abide forever. The Republican party has been the party of brave conservatism, of wise progress aud ol triumphant faith in the nationality of this peop:e, and we know that the president aud statesmen and voters of the Republican party will meet these issues of the future, as bravely aud triumphautly as we have met the issues of the pasr. "The organized Democratic party of the nation adhere to the policies of free silver aud free trade, aud denies the right of the courts and of the government to protect persons an 1 property from violence. On the coming Kth of November we are to elect not only our state officers, but alsj representatives iu cougress ami members of our state legislature. That legislature in its turn will elect a United States senator to succeed the present Democratic senator from this state. It is kuown that if the Democratic party secures the State legislature it will re-elect to the United States senate that Democrat who now represents his party there and misrepresents the state. That seuator supported the cause of free silver, supported the nominee of the Chicago convention in the last presidential election; gave his vote in the senate for the heresies of that Chicago platform, and roust, if re-elected, continue to support these heresies."

SOUTH AND FREE TRADE. The Costly Consequences of the Lack of IHveraiBed Industries. An American correspondent, signing himself Benjamin Bndge and writing rom Cushing, la., has an interesting letter in The Kortheru Ensign, a weekly newspaper published in Wick, Scotland. "Free trade," says the writer, "is based essentially on the idea expressed or implied thatiu trading with other nations we can cheat them in the trade; that iu exchanging with foreigners we can secure an advantage over them ; that in return for the products of one day's work of ours we can get the product of a day and a hlf of theirs. In the accomplishment of this purpose the free trader is but following by a more humane method the precedent set by his prototype, the freebooter. The ob ject of the freebooter was to get wealth without producing it, to get that which somebody else had earned, but to get it without giving an equivalent. "The most impressive economic les son of all history is that afforded in a great crisis by the industrial impotence of our southern states resulting from their persistent neglect of the mechanic al arts and of diversified industries. When the south declared war, it was found that its people could create noth ing of practical utility. Their orators nd Btnmn speakers who led them into the war could spin 'yarns, but not of cotton ; they conld weave sentences, but not woolens; tbey could make speech es, bnt could not mate engines; iney could make verses, Lnt could not make vestments; they could talk learnedly of the rights of man, but could not supply the wants of man; they could write flaming essays on courage, but could not make a gun or a canister of powder; thev could organize armies, bnt not in dustries; they could inspire their troops with enthusiasm, but could not supply them with blankets. "With all their cotton they could not make a handkerchief; with quantities of sheep and all natural facilities for producing vsool and taming it into cloth they could not make a coat. With every ocDortuuitv for toe estaolisnment cr manufactures thev could not make a needle, a knife, a bayonet or a button When, therefore, in the hour of their utmost need they wanted clothing, arms, munitions and uu-ar.s of transportation, they were without factories, foundries. mills, machine shous, rai!road3, tools and skilled workmen.
