Annual Q apt Meeting of ths Horti cultural Society. On the afternoon of September 10th the ffrape meeting of the Wayne county Horticultural society of tbe year waa held at the beautiful country home of George li. Thorpe, just north of the city, known as ihe William Parry" farm. Arrangement were timely made by these srenercuj folks for tbe accomo dation and pleasure of the Hortieultuial society, and the members with then friends begaD to assemble soon after the noon-day hoar. Tha curly" leaf on tbe peach tree was very abundant, which was lessened by spraying. Grape growing in this locality not a success financially, and tone vineyards are being removed for other more profitable crops, as the bjrry-woru), rot, mildew and bees are troublesome and destructive to the grape. Flowers An excellent season for fljwers, but the bngs and other insects have only been held in check by care art sprtying. Vegetables The tomato crop only half an average, bat melons, pumpkins and other vegetables were abundant. The Pingree display at the city building recently was highly commended and btlieyed to be a source of much good to our city gardners. Dairy and Culinary From U. S. weather crop report, pastures are fine throughout most of tbe state. In this county, stable feeding is being more practical than ever, especially in con nection with the silo. lof. W. S. Davis of the city high school gave the address on the "Amendments to the Constitution of the United States." His extreme familiarity with the subject, together with tbe many supple m ntary remarks on ana'og na topics, made- the paper both interesting and instruct ve, and for which the society extended him a special vote of thanks. The special committee made a satisfactory report relative to our coming Richmond fair. Each member of the society receives a complimentary to the fair during the entire week, but is expected to make an exhibit whttLer competing for a premium or not. Those not supplied with tickets should address our secretary. Nathan Garwood was selected by the executive committee to take charge of our society's exhibit at the ground?, and it is intended that our society's department shall contain a creditable display of agricultural and horticultural products. A vote of thanks was extended by the society to otfr host and hostess for tbe kindness and attention shown our members at this meeting.
