The sixth and seventh grades of the
Hibberd building went to Elkhorn this
afternoon to study the geological formation in that section of the country. A well known dealer in strawberries said this morning that the Indiana berries this season would be much filer than they were last year, but not quite so plentiful. Charles E. Shiveley has received an
invitation to address the Knights of
Pythias at Rushville next Sunday, but was obliged to decline on account of
going to New York city the latter part
of this week.
The Ladies of the G. A. R. will meet
tonight at the G. A. R. hall to transact business and to hear the reports of the
delegates to the state encampment.
The meeting will be an important one
and a large attendance is desired.

It is intended that a great spiral railay operated by electric power from Niagara Falls shall be to the proposed pan-American exposition, to be held u. Cayuga island, Niagara Falls, what the Ferris wheel was to the World fair and what the Eiffel tower was to the
last Paris exposition. General plans for
this conception hare been made, and
the dt-tails are being worked out. The
basis fur the railway is to be a huge cir
cular tower of steel framework, 500 feet high, around which, like the thread of
a screw, the spiral . railwav will run
supported on powerful brackets securely
joined ,to the framework of the tower.
The tower will have a diameter of 80 feet at the bottom, and the taper will be
30 feet to the 400 foot level, giving a
dianietpr at that point of 50 feet.
Around the tower the railway will
run, rising 40 feet to the complete cir
cle, thus passing ten times around the
tower in reaching the 400 foot level
where there will be a platform which will be the terminus of the line. A
ratchet rail will be used for thm cars to
make the climb, on the same principle as the a.vnt of the Mount Washington and Pike's Peak mad. The grade of the
road will be from 17 to 25 per cent
Protective devices will be used to assure safety, and it is expected that passengers

Abington. Elkhorn meeting last Sunday was largely attended by people from this place. From some unknown cause the lecture Friday night at the U. B. church was not very largely attended. McKone made the music for the many persons at the ball Saturday night. There will be a dancing picnic next Saturday afternoon and night at Smelser's grove, a few miles southeast of here. John W.lliams and wife spent Sunday with relatives near this place. Johnny Kodenberg is preparing to remodel his barn. Carry Stevens' watch, which was stolen a short time ago, has not been found. Moses Mitchell attended the funeral of Harry Mitchell, at Earlham, Sunday. Charles Miller has purchased a new surrey. The Masons are repairing their building. Odd Mvrick intends building a barn in the near future.
