! NO WOMAN IS EXEMPT.
SHIRT WAIST AND WASH SKIRT FROM HARPER'S BAZAR A yoke effect of an entirely new ' skirts for midsummer, not only to the form appears in the shirt waist model sense of the wearer, but also the eye
illustrated, which is made with a very ot ltle oanomer, is sued that it insures
broad box-pleat in front. The distribution of the gathers under the yoke produces a becoming effect over the bust. A plain pointed yoke with a centre seam is added to the tailor back, which has do gather except at the waist line. The smalt shirt-sleeves are finished with a straight cuff, narrow enough to pass easily into the sleeves of a ooat. The collar is the high turned oyer model. The belt is of snake-skin with narrow buckled straps. The tailor skirt for cotton fabrics, which has become suc h a necessity of the summer outfit, is an excellent design for white pique, linen crash, or cotton reps. The comfort of such
them a long lease of popular
favor. The skirt is a five-gored model, made with a wide front gore. The back breadth' may be pleated or gathered, as preferred Three yards and a half is the width at the foot. The proper cut of the costume can be obtained only from the cut patterns furnished by Harper's Bazar, where it is published. The new form of sailor hat, with medium width brim, has a plain crown band and side bow with a buckle. Approximate quantity of material for medium size: For shirt waist 36 inches wide, 3 yards. For skirt 3fl
inches wide, 5 yards
. Regularity is a matter of importance la every woman's life. Much pain Is. however, endured in the belief that it
fa meoeaaary and not alarming, when in truth it is all wrong and indicates derangement that may cause serious
trouble.
Excessive monthly pain itself will unsettle the nerves and make women
old before their time.
The fonndation of woman's health is perfectly normal and regular per
formance of nature s function. The
statement we print from Miss Gcb-
TKtTDE Sixes, of Eldred. Pa , is echoed in every city, town and hamlet in this
country. Bead what she says:
' Dxab Mas. Pisxham: I feel like a new person since following your ad
vice, and tfcink it is my duty to let the public know the good your remedies have done me. My troubles were pain
ful menstruation and lencorrhoea. I
was nervous and had spells of being
con fused. Before using your remedies I never had any faith in patent medi
cines. I now wish to say that I never had anything do me so much good for
painful menstruation as Lydia E. Pink-
bam s Vegetable Compound; also would ay that your Sanative Wash has cured mm of leucorrhcea. I hope these few
words may help suffering women.
The present Mrs. Pinkham's experi
ence in treating female ills is unparal
Ieled, for years she worked side by aide with Mrs. Lydia E. Pinkham, and for sometime past has had sole charge of the correspondence department of her great business, treating by letter
as many as a hundred thousand ailing
women during a single year.
All suffering women are invited to
write freely to Mrs. Pinkham, at Lynn,
Mass., for advice about their health.

There are about 500 of them there every

The execution had been fixed for
June 16. At 11 o'clock on that day
sentence was read to the condemned.
who were told that it would be carried into effect at 3 o'clock on the
same afternoon. Maximilian received the Intelligence calmly and devoted the following hours, which he deemed his laet, todictating letters to Dr. Basch and to hia Mexican secretary, Senor Blasio. He then confessed to Padre Soria and heard mass in General iliramon's chamber, where the condemned men received the last sacraments, after which he sinetl his letters and took leave of those about him. In removing his wedding ring
and handing it to Dr. Basch he said, "You will tell my mother that I did my duty as, a soldier and died like a
Christian." After this he quiefly
awaited death.
The appointed hour passed, how
ever, wittiout his being summoned
to execution. Afier prolonged sus
pense, at 4 o clock in the afternoon
news arrived that a reprieve of three
days had been granted by the presi
dent in order that the condemned might have time to make their last
dispositions.
Ibis unexpected delay naturally
aroused hopes among the friends of
the doomed men. These hopes, it is
said by those closest to him at that
time, were not shared by Maximil
lan. He continued his preparations
with the same calm dignity that had
not once forsaken him, but he sent
a telegram to the national govern
xnent asking that the lives of Gen
erals Miramon and Mejia, ' who had
already undergone all the anguish of death, be spared" and that he
might be the only victim. The re
quest was denied.
After makine this sunreme effort
on benait ot 1113 generals he employ
el his remaining bourn in dictating letters, and when night came he
slept soundly.
On the morning of his execution
(June 19) he arose at 3 o'clock and
dressed carefully. At 4 o'clock Padre Soria came and once more
gave niru the last sacrament. An altar had been erected for this pur pose in a niche formed by a passage
way to his cell. This religious duty having been performed, he gave in
etuctions to Dr. Basch, sending greetings and last tokens to friends At a quarter before 6 he breakfast
ed, and when, on the stroke of 6, the officer appeared who was to lead j him to execution he was ready, and himself called his companions in
death. Three hacks had been pro
vided for the condemned. The prince
entered the first with the priest, and, escorted by the soldiery, the mournful procession moved through a
uense crowtt to the place or execution.
On arriving at the Cerro de la
Campanas, where a month before he had made his last stand, the fallen emperor looked about him for a friendly face, and, finding tttlf his
iservant. the Hungarian Tudos, he
asked.' Is no one else heret" It is said, however, that Baron Magnus, the Prmmian minister, and Connl
Babnsen were present, although out
of sight.
The good priest weakened under
the ordeal. He felt faint, and the
prince held his own smelling bottle
to his nose.
Followed by Generals Miramon
and Mejia, Maximilian walked to
ward the open square, where an
adobe wall had been erected, against
which they were expected to stand.
About to take his position in the middle, Maximilian stopped and, turning to General Miramon, said:
A bravo soldier should be honored
even in his last nour. rermit me 10
give you the place of honor." And he made way for him.
An officer and seven men had been
detailed to do the deadly work. Tho prince gave each of the 6oldicrs a piece of gold, asking them to aim carefully at his heart, and, taking off his hat, he said: "Mexicans, may my blood be the last to be spilled for
and if it
necessary that its sons
6bould still shed theirs may it flow for its good, but never by treason !
Long live independence! Long live
Mexico!"
He then laid hia hands on his
breast and looked straight before
him. Five shots tired at short range
pierced hia body. Each of them was mortal. He fell, and as he still moved the officer in charge pointed to his heart with his sword, and a

Miss S. Hamilton, 23 south ninth street, in speaking about Doan'a Kidney Pills sometime ago said: 'For two 01 three years past I was troubled with a weakness of my kidneys accompanied by a heary, aching psin through
my loins and a soreness directly over the right kidney. The secretions were unnatural and irregular. Headaches and attacks of dizziness were of frequent occurrence. Having seen Doan'a Kidney Pills highly recommended for these troubles I got a box at A. G. Luken's drug store and used them. They seemed especially adapted for
my case and relieved me in a very short time. Since using them I have felt better than for a long time. I highly recommend Doan's Kidney Fills and advise others who may be
suffering in a similar way to use them."

Matrimonial Coincidence. Mr. S. D. McMillan, who has recent
ly moved to Charlotte from South Caro
lina, gives an interesting account of a matrimonial coincidence that occurred in his family last year. Abont the 1st of last July Mr. McMillan received a letter from his brother Id Lake End, La., saying: "I will be married on the Sth of this month. Meet 09 at Nashville and join us for a trip to Colorado City." At the time be received this letter Mr. McMillan was making arrangements for his own wedding, which was dated for Joly 8, and at this time he says be was liviug in the sand hills of South Carolina, the soil there having become proverbial for its poverty. On abont the 10th of July be received a letter from another brother, 3. D. Mosautem or uiws UUad, off the west coast of California, saying, "I was married on the 8th of this month to Miss . " In contrast with the sand hills of Sooth Carolina Cataline island is one of the most fertile districts in the world. All three brothers married on the Sth of Jnly, and it was impossible for them to have hnd any preconcerted plans abont the date, as they bad not heard from each other in months. Charlotte (X. C.)
