department (rives the following1 information on frost in its last bulletin: Water is the best protection from frost. The air always contains so-xe
water vapor, and the warmer the air
is the more water vapor it can contain.
At 50 decrees a cubic foot of air might contain four grains of water vapor,
and usually con'aius about three
grains. When the air cools, a point may be reached at which it cannot hold up all the water which it contains. If this is
above the freeziug point, some of the
water vapor is deposited in the form
of dew. But when the water changes from water vanor to liouid dew, a
large amount of heat is given off and
this prevents a further fall of tempera
ture. But if the air contains so little
water vapor that it can cool below the
freezing point before the water begins
to deposit, the water is depos'ted in
the form of ice crystals and we have a
frcst. A moist air then is a protection from frost. The frequent shallow
cultivation that saves soil moisture.
win at trie same time Keep the air
above the soil more ruoii-t, and will to some extent serve as a protection from
frost.
A direct and effective way of pro
tecting plants from frost is to irrigate the land or to sprinkle the plants with water at the time the frost is expected.
la this state few farms have means of
irrigating in the usual way. But there
are many farms on which fruits are sprayed, and the spraying machinery may easily be used to sprinkle plants
with water to protect them from frost.
This method has proved practical and profitable on a variety of spring croDS.

Worcester, Mas., March 5, lsis. Wells, Kichardon & Co. Gentlemen: Myself and family form a firstclass example of the health-giving qualities of Paine's celery compound. Every spring we ue this valuable remedy, and it has kt-pt my cbMreu' well and strong. I believe that it is better to take steps to keep well rather than tJ wait till one is sick. The good health of my family and freedom from doctor's bills shows the wisdom of taking Paine's celery compound Every time I have a chance 1 speak in praise of Paine's eel ry compound, knowing it to be superior to sarsaparillas or any ordinary spring medicine. Yours very truly, Hakry Prfndiv.i.le, Publisher of the American HauJsmau. Here's a whole family. Husband, wife and children made well and kept well by Paine's celery
