Dr. A. B. Simpson went to New Mad

isoa last night to attend the funeral to

day ot his brother-in-law. Daniel Rei-

gel, a pioneer ct Darke county, who was a gentleman well and favorably known

to many persons in this city.

Mr. Gmckle who is painting the Gaar

bridge over Whitewater, at the Har-

kins' bridge left his brushes and some paint there over Sunday, thinking it

would be perfeotly safe to do so, but in

that he was mistaken tor some one. out

ot pure cusiedness took his brushes and

daubed on paint ot a dinerent color on

his completed work, making it neoessary

tor him to go over his work again, and

not content with this they further de

faced the work by scratching it with

nails. Mr. Gunokle is a quite, well disposed gentleman, deserving ot good

treatment and the misoreants guilty ot

the outrage should be ferreted out and

punished to the full extent ot the law.

A deaf and dumb man perambulated

our streets yesterday, stioking his slate at almost every one he chanced to meet, on which was written, "Faber

pencils, three tor a nickel. He gath

ered in quite a harvest ot niokels, and was so elated over his suooess that he got drunk in the evening. In the

gents' waiting room at the depot he fell of! a settee and knocked a small boy

down, and on being assisted to a Per

pendicular, he planted himself down on

a lot ot Christmas fixings an old gen

tleman had purchased tor his grand-

ehuoren, causing a crash that was anything bat pleasant to his ears, and oc

again. During the past few days every

body has been making preparation lor its proper observance. The holiday

trade has been up to the usual amount, and everybody will be feasant be red. The day will be generally beerved by
