Catarrh I S a blood disease. Until too poison U expelled from the system, there can be no cure for this loathsome and dangerous malady. Therefore, the only effective treatment is a thorough course of Ayer's Sarsaparilla the beat of all blood purifiers. The sooner you begin the better ; delay is dangerous. " I was troubled with catarrh for over two years. I tried various remedies, and was treated by a number of physicians, but received no benefit until I began to take Ayer's Sarsaparilla. A lew bottles of this medicine cured me of this troublesome complaint and completely restored my health." Jesse M Boggs, Holman's Mills, N. C. " When Ayer's Sarsaparilla was recommended to me for catarrh, I was inclined to doubt its efficacy. Having tried so many remedies, with little benetit, I had no faith that anything would cure me. I became emaciated from loss of appetite and impaired digestion. 1 bad nearly lost the sense of smell, and my system was badly deranged. I was about discouraged, when a friend nrged me to try Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and referred me to persons whom it had cured of catarrh. After taking half a dozen bottles of this medicine, I am convinced that the only sure way of treating this Imtinate dinease is through the blood." Charles II. Maloney, 113 Kiver St., Lowell, Mass. A Mare Rptrlnifa ' To the Editor of the Palladium : A few weeks sinoe a turnpike con tractor near Union City was digging a large drain ditoh when he struok some "queer bones" and teeth at a depth of eight feet below the surface. The ob jects ot interest were taken to Winchester and efforts were made to classify them, but they seemed to be unlike anything known to any ot the many who saw them. The undersigned, by invita tion ot the owner, took an early oooasion to go and see them. They seem very clearly to be remains ot a oreature ot the beaver kind, but many times larger than our largest beavers ot tbe present dsy. The remains were purohaaed and brought to Karl ham. where any and all who take an interest in suoh objects may see them, fragments ot this extmot speoies Castoroides Ohi Aousis ( Fos ter) are very rare, and so Urge a portion ot the animal has proably not oome to light in any find heretofore. A very imperteot head and a few scattering fragments ot the remainder ct the skel eton are all that have heretofore oome to light. We now have at harlham nearly the entire spinal column, most ot the ribs, the sternium, the tore and hind legs, several ot tbe feet bones, the lower jaw perfect, and the portion of the apper jaw containing all the teeth. The animal, when alive, was ss large as a medium-sited blaok bear. It lived in the last geological epoch prior to the present say the Post Pliooene as an assooiate ot the later mastodons and mammoths. It is spoken ot as a beaver beeause it ia more like that animal than to any other that now lives, and while agreeing with it structurally in very many respects, is still genetically different, as would be indicated by the teeth alone. The glaring contrast as to sits may be seen at a glance as a iaw bone of each lie side by side m the Jbarlham museum.. Dr. Jav has a tooth ot the under iaw. This morning about 3 o'clock effioer Davis arrested a man on Fifteenth street who answered closely to this description. He earned a loaded revolver and a burglar's Jimmy. Notwithstanding the very inolement weather last night, the social given by the ladies ot Coltax Degree Staff ot Eien Lodge daughters ot Rebekah was largely attended, tor the reason that it is well known in this community that when the ladies ot this degree announoe a social it means a good time one that everybody can enjoy. Un this occasion it was announoed that special efforts would be made to interest those who fayored the ladies with their presence, and the promise was made good to the letter. There is a large class ot people who do not oare to danoe or participate in in any kind ot amusement. but who enjoy a good supper. They were on hand last night and were profuse in their praise of the spread. No one oould de sire a better supper. There was everything in the way of substantial and delicacies, prepared in a manner that rt Hooted credit upon the ladies haying it in charge, and the perfeot manner in which it was served added additional enjoyment to the feast. At the proper time Banquet Hsu was opened, and soon filled with persons ho find enjoyment in tripping the light tantastio toe." The music, furnished by Professor Custer's full orchestra, was sdperb, and willing feet kept step to it until long alter the noon ot night. A feature that was muoh enJoyed by the uninitiated was the sppear anoe ot the ladies ot Colfax Degree Staff in their handsome paraphernalia, and their perfect movements excited admiration and a desire on the part ot those who have a right but haye not yet availed themselves ot the privilege, to see them oonfer the Degree ot Re bekah. Then, in order to afford enjoyment to all, there was another spaoious room , open to those who found pleasure in manipulating oards and social conversation. The sooial was a grand success from every standpoint, and was a souroe ot muoh enjoyment to every one present. Am Act ! Cbarlly. A few of the friends took it noon themselves to have a pound party for Mrs. Meok Lowe (colored) Saturday evening, and it was as thoroughly adver tised as could be during Friday and Friday night without making any publio announcements. All who were willing to give anything were to meet or send their things to senna Hervey s at tour o'olook. At the time appointed, thirtyone persons had gathered together and from there went to the residenoe of Mr. L. and marohed in upon her as one solid army, eaoh one armed with some thing to gladden the heart of this woman. Those who were unable to go, and quite a number oould not, sent what they had to give. The following is a list of the artiolea she received. Flour, meal, eighteen oans of fruit, ooffee, sugar, potatoes, turnips, meat, cabbage, lard, but ter, staroh, soda, kraut, apples, prunes, beans, tea. soap. rioe. pepper, onions. gingham, oalioo, necktie and cash. This woman was in need ot every ar ticle received, having no one to rely on tor support only what she was able to earn by taking in washings. She was completely surprised when these women flocked into her house laden with the necessaries of life. Before leaving a few prayers were of fered in behalf ot Meok and her chil dren, that they might be well oared for and continue to live under the guidanoe of the Lord, for "The Lord will provide," (tolling; Uasr to Minor. For some time past it has been appar ent that quite a number ot minors were indulging in the use ot intoxioants, but the boys were reticent in regard to where they obtained their supplies. Finally, however, immunity from punishment emboldened both consumer and dispenser of intoxioants, and boys yet well in their teens were oooaaionally seen in a state ot intoxication. The parents ot the boys being rained took the matter in hand and demanded ot them to tell where they obtained their liquor. Some of them did so, and the violators of the law have been taught a lesson that it is hoped will do them good. Every person taking out a lioense to sell intoxicating liquors contracts with the State and city to obey the law governing the sale ot liquors that they will not sell to minors, on Sundays, on dsys ot regular elections or on legal holidays and when they violate their promise they should be made to suffer the consequences. No man who know ingly violates the liquor or any other law is deserving ot sympathy, and the talk ot persecution indulged in by a certain class ot people when the law is enforoed against offenders is simply ridiculous.
