COUNTY COMMISSIONIBS. A communication was reoeived from the commissioners ot Henry county, asking the commissioners ot Wayne county to appoint a viewer to. vacate a highway in Henry and Wayne oounties. and locate another one in lieu thereof, John Bowman was appointed viewer. The following bills were allowed: B. T. Reynolds, trustee, on account of poor of Harrison township, 4UU5; W. a. Hatfield, trustee, on account of poor ot Clay township. $S2 02: R. A. Howard, services as surveyor, Aaaoclaied Cbarttlra. There has been a strong feeling among a good many ot those having the interests of the poor at heart that a united eft" art should be made this win ter to find the worthy poor, especially those who naturally shrink from mak ing their wants known, and endure much suffering rather than apply to the townahip trustee for aid, and also to un mask those who are fraudulently or un necessarily receiving aid from the town. Therefore several meetings have been held and an organisation formed for this purpose. It consists of ladies trom all the ehurohea ot the eity without regard to oreed, nationality or eolor. All the ministers are ex-offioio members, and a majority ot them have attended the meetings for organization. The lol lowing is the constitution adopted : ARTICLE I. The name of our society shall be The Associated Charities ot Rich mond." article n. Its object shall be the promotion of whatever tends to the permanent im provement ot the condition ot the poor. article in. The work of the association shall be 1. To bring existing charitable agen eies into co-operation, in order to pre vent indiscriminate and duplicate alms livinn. 2. To secure the investigation of the oases ot all persons in any of our dis tricts who need or ask help. 3. To find for them the work or other helD they need. 4. To prevent begging and secure the community from imposture. 5. To promote the general welfare of the city. 6. To improve the character and methods ot administennir relief. 7. To prevent children from growing up paupers. ARTICLE IT. The officers of this association shall be a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and an executive committee. to conaist ot one member trom each ot our eity churches. The eity has been divided into fifteen districts and visitiag committees appointed for eaeh district. The headquarters are to be at the township trustee's office in the city library building, and it is requested that contributions be sent in of all kinds, especially of clothing, including shoes, and toodjoeluding vegetables. canned goods, and all kinds of groceries, also literature books, papers and m amines, and money. A committee will be there from 2 p, m, to 5 p. m. Thursday to receive them. The townahip trustee will also receive the contributions on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays aad Sator-

daya. Aay one wishing to make a con

tribution ot aay kind, but unable to deliver it, will b oalled upon it they address a postal card to Ths Associated Charities, ear of the Township Trustee." Many of the ladies have already en tered heartily upon the work of can vassing their districts, aad several very worthy eases of extreme destitution have beea fouad, aad also a number who are receiving help trom the town funds hava beea proved to be frauds, and the townahip trustee will be immediately notified. This movement will undoubtedly meet the approval and support of our citizens. As soon as a store ot supplies is gathered together, a committee ot ladies will be ia regular attendance at oertam hours to reader assistance to those sent to them by the visiting committees. There is also a committee to endeavor to obtain work tor those needing it. It is suggested that Sunday-sehools and ehurohea make a Christmas ottering to the poor through this channel, and thus enhanoe their own happiness during that Joyful oooasion. SS e ! Barwitae. Charles M. Nolte, of South Fourth atreet, was twenty-two years old last Sunday, and his young friends concluded to celebrate the event by making him a surprise visit last night.
