Frank Hinkle and Silas Scott have not yet re-en* tered school. The interest in school work is increasing; the rjuality of work done by pupils constantly improving; tlm standard of recitation Is gradually being raised in which thoroughness and practicality are the watchwords. But a glance at the great number of excuses and the per cent, of attendance for the mouth, in -the above report, will show - that our schools are not in the most prosperous and desirable Condition 1 possible. .As an evidence that the want of puactu* ality and (lie non-attendance which so touch! confuses and retards school work and stady, is not alone th§ fault of the pupils we need only cite the fact that they are never tardy in getting in their places, ready for work, from the playground, but only so when coming front their homes. Theft, too offeb, they pome with the idle excuse: “Please excuse, as We got ftp too late,” of “thff flfiT eloetc stopped, or is too slow,” or “did not Hear the school Hell ring,’’ etc. This is wrong and hurl fttl. We all desire to *le-' vate the standard of excellence in our schools. This can only be done by the cooperation of all parents, patrons and teach' era. Send the children on time, and all the time, and the responsibility for their mental improvement will be cheerfully assumed by their teachers.
