Stewart had been, the night before, stolen from tbe family vault in St Mark's Churchyard. The casket was found broken open and the body was missing. The police were notified. It was thought that tbe body bad been stolen lu tbe hope that a reward would be offered for Its recovery. Ox the fith, Mrs. A. T. Stewart offered a reward of 636,000 for the recovery of the stolen body of her late husband and the conviction of tbe thieves. A proportionate sum would he paid for the recovery of the body.
