The ‘republican portion were not won by the eloquence of the gentleman who once thought Union soldiers should be ornamented with iron collars stamped with the legend “A. Lincoln’s dog.’’ They estimate the attendance at considerably less than one thousand. School books lire cheap in Rensselaer without precedent. The prices on many of them are below living profit to the retailer. On some the sellers do not realize five cents apiece. Among tho articles to be slid are: Four head of horses, 2 yearling steers, 1 calf, 2 milch cows, 13 sheep, 15 acres of corn, 20 tons of tame hay, household furniture, etc., etc. Tho stockholders of the Indianapolis, Delphi A Chicago railroad company met at Monticello yesterday and elected a remodeled board of directors. The latter will meet in thirty days to elect their officers. A number of the stockholders with their wives and families accepted the invitation of Col. Yeoman to an excursion from Monticello to Rensselaer, but they had no time to look over our town.
