An Indian war seems inevitable this summer. An nrmv of democratic congressmen and editors ought to (je drafted immediately for frontier service. Tiie democracy once wero tiie prourl advocates of hard money and did not take kindly to “Lincoln rags,” bu 1 now they favor inilatiou for votes and power. If the democracy want honoat and fair elections why did they defeat tiie constitutional umendment providing for such? They ought to be consistent at least. The republicans of tiie sixth congressional district nominated Gen. Wm. Grose of Henry county, for and congress in the eleventh district, Captain Calvin Cowglll of Wabash on the forty-second bnllot. "
The republican nominating convention for lhe4oth representative district of Indiana, which consists of the counties of White and Jasper, will be held ut Reynolds next Thursday— June 27th. M. F. Chilcote, Esq., of Rensselaer, is mentioned for the nomination. Tiie republicans of White county made tiie following nominations last Saturday: VV. T. Dobbins, clerk; James Hay, sheriff; John Faris, treasurer; R. L., Harvey, recorder: A. M. Dickenson and J. T. Barnes, commissioners; T. M. Foltz, surveyor; John Yopst, coroner.
If any class has a right to curse the democracy for disturbing the peace of tlio country it is tiie laboring men. By this partisau investigation they disturb the peace and shake the con* fidence of business men aud destroy security. The democratic revolutionary scheme is a deadly blow to the business interests.
The treasury statement of June 30, 1873, preceding tiie panic, showed tiie amount of United States currency of al! kinds outstanding to be §401,527,207. The statement /or April, 187 S, shows tiie currency outstanding to be §303,019, 008. Besides tiiis there’is in actual circulation §42,000,000 of silver, of which 38;yJ2,00»1s subsidiary coi n. The above statements show that in*, stead of a contraction since 1873 there lias been a slight expansion.
The small-fry, wlmng-a-doodle democratic papers say the" republicans iu congress were opposed to an investigation of tiie alleged frauds in Louisiana and Florida. The republicans did nob want a partisan but a general investigation. They worked to have tiie elections of not only Louisiana, and Florida investigated, but also those of Mississippi, Georgia, South Garolina and Oregon. The democratic majority would not permit it. If the township ng»ss conventions of last Saturday are a criterion for an estimate of strength, there are not to exceed fifty independent greenback nationals in Jasper county. In this, Marion, township, thero were not a dozen of them; in Carpenter township nine of them massed to listen to a harangue by a young rooster that captained a band of Tilden bummers last campaign. No report comes from Jordan township, but the globe didn’t careen to make any one dizzy when they got together. All the nationals there are in the other ten townships will not average two and one-half to the township, probably. The very best course for thorn to pursue is to unite with tiie republicans for justice, honesty, the public good aud success. Republicans will win lu Indiana this year of grace, anyhow, aud it would be fine to make & good large majority.
The democratic county-seat ring is said, to be trying to “make it up” with Hon. George H. IJrown for having sat down upon him in the Bradford convention, year before last. A week or two ago Mr. Barkley’s friends wero begging permission to use his name in connection with the nomination for county treasurer, but he would not; now they adorn themselves with most seductive smiles and Hatter him about being a candidate for the lower house of the legislature. Were it uot that they have already written Fred Hoover’s name on tho slate for it, they might even whisper to his ambition something about the nomination for state senator. Indeed for the sake of peace, quietude, love, harmony and success tiie carpet-bag colony and car-pet-bag colonizer might even bumble themselves to crawl in the dust at his feet. History says that not many of the auditor’s household ruptured themselves last campaign by over exertion to secure Mr. JJrown’s election for county commissioner, but possibly they did, for history is entirely silent on tlio subject.
