Indiana Congressmen.
The Washington correspondent of the St. Louis Journal, under the date of May 10, closes up a long letter to that paper aritlj. the<following ullusiort to lf!dis'nS politics and Indiana congressmen: ’ The loading republicans from that state oppressed or distcurbed with gloomy, forebodings as to the result at the comingelections. They say they are well organ-, ized, and, in a minority of cases, the re* publican districts are ably .-represented by. such men as Hon. Leonidas Sexton, M. L>. White, John Hanna and W. H. Calkins, alt of whom are very popular at home,- and whose course here has becu such as to maketheir r eturn almost au assured fact. QoVerner Sexton is a lawyer of eminence, having filled various positions involving important trusts, with marked ability, and has proved himself an efficient worker «dt, the floor as well as in the committee room. Judge JI. D. White is another attentive, pains taking, level . headed member, of Broad and liberal views, with them the of " his constituents may bo safely trusted. The thorn in the side of .Sam llandall is Hon. W. 11. Catkins from the lOtb district of Indiana, One of the youngest and ableei' members in his delegation, and the peer of any one in the house.- He has already the reputation of a ro-ady debater, bting fluent and forcible in his style of delivery,' as well as a close thinker, and by close and untiring application to the study of the rule and usages of the house has been enabled to render invaluable service to a republican mauority by his vigilance and ability in interposing a system of checks to the speaker’s automatic manner of decid-. ing questions involved parlimentary usagff—he has made himself felt as a formidable opponent to (ho democratic majority here,, aud his people will be guilty of a graves and inexcusible error If they do not ntam him by an increased majority. Of course the democracy would ©refer that most any one else should com© f.rom his district, but this seems to be a very cogent reason why his friends should make as gallant a fight, for him as he is making for them. — Craw fordsrille Journal. .
