Are you going to the show? Farriers are in the midst of hay harvest Who ever nicer harvesting weather? A fresh supply of corn meal at C. C. Starr’s. Go to Kannal to buy nice and cheap candies. Emmet Kannal is agent for the Florence oil stove. The apple crop in thia county will be light this season. Roasting ears ot native growth are offered in market All kinds of machine oil cheap, at Kannal’a drug store. Glass fruit jars tl per dozen, at Emmet Kannal’s drug store. A pound of good tea at C. C. Starr’s for 50 cents. Try it See the circus advertisement in another column of this paper. Potatoes are worth fifty cents a bushel at retail in Rensselaer. Best place in town to buy wall paper is at Kannal’s drug store. Bricklaying on Starr’s new block commenced Monday with avint. Two hundred thousand brick for sale. Enquire of F. J. Sears & Co. Mr. A. W. Bingham has thanks for a copy of the St Louis Globe Democrat. New wheat flour retails for $2 per quarter barrel sadk in this town. Nice confectionery at Henry Purcupile’s—corner room opposite the bank. Good meadow pasture cap be had of J. 11. VVilley, for cows or horses. A new lot of number one cigars just received at Harding & Peacock’s. Fruit jars—tin tops—extra rubbers for Mason’s jars, at C. C. Starr’s. The brand of cigar called “Kannal’s Favorite,” is taking the lead. Only five cents. Quarterly meeting at Blue Grass next Saturday and Sunday, Elder Smith presiding. Farmers hereabouts are harvest ing oats which is said to be an unusually good crop. A full and complete stock of queensware, glassware and stoneware at C. C. Starr’s. Louis Bass is home again, and informs us that he intends remaining here for the present. Thanks to S. 11. Duvall tor a mess of fine beets, and to R. 11. Purcupile for cucumber*. The melon-colic days will soon be here, the gladdest of the year (for physicians and druggists). Mr. F. J. Sears started the first of the week to Danville, 111., for a short visit. His wife went with him.

Willey & Sigler are now receiving their fall stock of boots and shoes, which they will sell at lowest possible prices. - Brace up, young man! Have aorae style! Buy a pair of those nice shoulder braces at Kaunal’s drug store; only 11.25. The price of half a bushel of potatoes, or three dozen eggs, or two pounds of butter, as retailed by the grocers is 25 cents. It will pay for one copy of the Union three mouths. The two brothers, Felix and Stanton Lester, have opened a livery in Halloran's new and commodious barn, on Van Rensselaer Street Success to you, gentlemen.
There is said to be an abundance of nuts ot all kinds, this season. Plenty of firstclass newspapers for sale at this office fur five cents per half dozen. Flour will soon be so cheap that the humblest liver can indulge in an occaslbnai biscuit. Glory! Call at Willey <fc Sigler’s, and examine the new stock of boots and shoes, before purchasing elsewhere. Be sure to visit Kannal’s ice cream parlor and try the Boston Crystalized Ice Cream, something new and very novel. Old weasel skin ohrses areagain brought into use by the circulation of silver. We saw a friend with one a day or two since. At Emmet Kannals drug store is the only place in town where can be bought six fine cigars and a cigar case for 25 cents. Rev. Mr. Smith, Presiding Elder, will officiate at the quarterly meeting exercises of the Blue Grass Methodist Episcopal church, next Sunday. Will preach in the M. E. Church in Rensselaer Sunday ingHon. P. M. Ward and young Cheesebro, of Kentland, were in Rensselaer Monday. Mr. Ward was the first patron of The Union under the new reduced rates, which he pronounced “cheap enough even tor hard times.” Elder H. V. Reed, of Plymouth, will preach in the Christian church next Sabbath morning at 10:30 o'clock, and in the evening will lecture upon the Eastern question as viewed in the light of prophecy. Let there be a good attendance. .There,is not, an able bodied man in the county of Jasper Who cannot afford to take The Union at the reduced price. It is the cheapest newspaper ever published in the county. Only twenty-five cents, cash, for three months. Take it. It is a positive fact that Emmet Kannal sells the finest toilet soap and perfumery that is brought to the Rensselaer market. Last Friday while Mr. Samudl Parker was mowing on his farm, seven or eight miles east of town, the team ran away and throwed him to the ground. Fortunately he was not thrown oh the side of the cutter, or at least was not thrown on it. One of his feet was broken and ho, was otherwise injured, but how is not known as the hurts sustained gendered him unconscious.

Col Healey passed through Remington last Saturday on his way to Miami county.' He was understood to say that he would visit Rensselaer before many days. James &, Co. are hereby respectfully notified that standing accounts must be settled without delay; they must be settled at once, either by payment of money or the giving of note bearing ten per cent, interest from date. Those who are sensitive about being dunned, will please call at once and make satisfactory arrangements; otherwise a collector will surely speak to them in person about it. Settlements of present indebtedness must be made with money or note at ten per cent, interest ; no trade will be taken, none need be offered. Patrons whose accounts have been standing open six months to five years have been favored as long as the condition of our business will permit us to indulge them; gratitude now demands of them to prove their appreciation of these favors by promptly .responding to this appeal.
