A Sensation in Church.
The agents for different wares are very persistent. It is hard to shake off a sew?, ing-machine man. Alife insurance solicitor is one of the most pertinacious of Ms class. Publishers of subscription liters lure are at their wits’ end to get up a specimen book that won’t frighten a man before the agent has had a chance at him. But a’l those solicitors have to give way in shrewdness to those who represent our religious organizations. There is a great prejudice agfcinst the agents of societies, and they find it difficult to get into the churches to present their cause. They often resort to a little finesse. For instance, the Rev. Dr. Holme preached at the Mission Baptist Church last Sunday night. The house was crowded and much interest was man'tested. At theclose of the sermon, while the collection Whs l>eing taken up, a well-known agent went to the pulpit and said to the preacher: “I want you to introduce me to the audience. I nave a band of colored singers here, and I want to sing a few songs.” The minister thought it was all right acd introduced him. The colored band filed up on the platform and went to work. The greatest excitement Was produced in the congregation. Prominent men rushed around from pew to pew. One of the officials went up to the pulpit and Baid: “ This thing must stop,” which was effectually done at once. Tbe greatest indignation was expressed at the manner in which the Agent edged his way into the pulpit. — Bolton Journal. —“ls that clock right over there?” asked a visitor. “ Right over there ?” said the boy, “ ’Tain’t nowhere else,”
