Rensselaer Union, Volume 9, Number 38, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 7 June 1877 — Temperance Festival [ARTICLE]
Temperance Festival
A grand temperance festival will be given at Remington to-morrow (Friday) evening. All kinds of refreshments will be served, and the occasion willbe enlivened with comic and sentimental songs. A splendid temperance dialogue will be a prominent feature of the occasion. Admission only ten cents. Everybody cordially invited to attend. A general good time is expected. The election law passed by the Legislature last winter provides that an election shall be heid in each township in each county in the state on the first Monday of April, 1877, and every second year thereafter, for the purpose of electing justices of the peace, township trustee, assessor, constable and supervisors. Some of our exchanges favor the law, while others oppose it. We do not see why. if properly managed, it should be much more expensive than the way heietofore held.— Winamac Republican.
