Crescent Literary Society.
This society will hold a public meeting in the court house on Friday night, December Bth. The programme on that occasion, , as arranged by*Mrs. R. Dwiggins, Messrs. Charles A. Edmunds and Simon P. Thompson, executive Committee, is as follows: Music. Inaugural address by Mr. Zimri Dwiggins. Reading of the minutes of previous meeting and preliminary business. Declamation by Mias Florence Thompson. Essay by Mr. Hamel B. Miller. Music. Debate upon- the proposition that the American people sustain greater injury from the use of tobacco tn an from the use nt intoxicatuig liquors; afhrmative, Mr. Simon P. Thompson and Miss Lydia Dwiggins; negative, Judge E. P. Hammond and Mrs. Alfred Thompson. Music- Recess of ten minute*. Select reading by Miss Candace Boroughs. Oration by Ret. Thds. Vanscoy. Essay by Mr*. M. L. Spitler. Declamation by Master Louis Hollingsworth. Music. ■/ Strict order will be enforced and no person will be admitted to the hall during any performance.
The concert at the M. E. Church last Bunday night was a very creditable affair. The exercises were both interesting and instructive, and elicited rounds of applause from the delighted audience. We are glad to see so much interest taken in the Sabbath school cause. May it live long and prosper.
