Romance and Reality.
Mayor Banks, of Albany, officiated in rather a romantic marriage ceremony last week. The twain made one were Samuel Mayer and Jennie Pergament, who, atone time, were residents of Berlin, Germany. They had attended school together, and, young as they were, an ardent attachment had sprung up between them. Their intimacy, however, was rudely broken in upon by the departure of Jennie’s family for America, she, of course, accompanying them. The young lovers separated with many vows of fidelity, and Samuel recorded a pledge that at an early day he would seek his inamorata in the new land to which she was going. This was five years ago. After the departure of Jennie, Samuel bent his energies to the acquirement of sufficient means to bring him over-. For four long years he toiled, and at last had the happiness of knowing his efforts were crowned with success. He came to this country and commenced his search for Jennie, finding her finally in New York. Her parents had other plans for her, and refused to consent to her marriage with Samuel. He hadn’t come all the way from Berlin for nothing, however, and Thursday night they eloped and took the boat from New York to Albany, where, upon application to Mayor Banks, they were married, as above stated. —Troy Times .
